option to disable windows key

Every single day, often multiple times per day, I hit that damn windows key (nestled right between control, alt, and near shift) and end up kicking myself out of SL. Since I run full-screen, that means I spend awhile waiting for SL to come back up and textures to reload and such. Incredibly annoying, and there's no way to avoid it once I've done it.

Please, please give us an option to disable the windows key. Sorry if this has been asked before.

I disabled my windows key with a screwdriver to pop the keycap. Probably not the answer you're looking for though.

Modding the keyboard...

I went with opening the keyboard and cutting the circuit board trace for that #@%@#% key...

My method works nicely in that you don't have a big hole where the key was. It just does nothing anymore.

Makes ALL my 'wasd' movement type games MUCH nicer to play. Besides there's another windows key on the right side of the keyboard as well on most keyboards and you could still get to the windows start menu with 'ctrl-alt-something I forget' that still works so that people with older keyboards can still access it that way.

I did use the 'rip out the ofending key method' on a previous keyboard and glued a joke 'ANY' key my sister gave me there instead... ;)

....

Duh.

Key removed, crisis averted. What the hell, why didn't I think of that? :o

I used XModMap to change what those keys do. Now, the left windows key brings up the "K" menu, while the right key is a "compose" key.

Aw... I'm too slow. My solution was user-conditioning. Attach a couple of metal contacts to the surface of the Windows Key, and then connect them to your standard power cord and plug it in. You'd probably only ever hit the Windows Key by accident once, after this setup.

Um... hi Lex! :D
