It would be a beautiful thing if we have the ability to hotkey between the main chat window and the IM window, or if chat windows observed some form of modality (top gets focus, etc).
While I'm at it, I'd like to see a choice between the current windowed method and a /tell system, with choice as to where you route chat and what kind of chat you want to appear in the window. Examples:
- Toggle on/off group channels (NO MORE GROUP SPAM UNLESS YOU WANT TO SEE IT)
- Toggle on/off incoming IMs (similar to busy or afk, but would inform sender that you currently have incoming IMs turned off)
- Toggle on/off vicinity chat (this would be WONDERFUL for times when you just do not want to see everything being said around you)
Other modifications to the communication system that would be welcome here:
- In-game email (option to save emails to local drive as a preference)
- In-game chat logging (option to save contents of window presented upon close, toggle save off or on via preferences)
- Quickkey 'auto reply' to last incoming IM (ex: /r)
- Quickkey 'tell' (ex: /t Cienna Samiam, Hi there!)
- Quickey 'group tell', where groups are assigned number by order joined (ex: /g1 Hey guys, remember there is a meeting at 3:00pm!)
- Chat Colors that could be assigned to Group, Friend, or Emote (system colors excluded)
- Optional Tabbed History Window where one could choose to include IM tabs or not
Thanks for listening!

I've said it once, and I'll say it again. SL should just integrate IRC functionality. Period.
Since it allows for a lot of that and for scripts where it doesn't, I think it should be a priority.

If we continue down the path that is formed by such things as shopping on an html-on-a-prim shopping system, and communicating in an efficient manner using "SLIRCchat", before long there won't be any use for the 3D virtual reality at all, right? I mean, most of the time in SL you see people standing perfectly still; the computationally expensive 3D avatars could be replaced with a 2D picture for an icon in the SLIRCchat system and it would be much the same as what one sees now only with much better communications options.
If we had RemotePlayTringo and DistanceSex along with WebPrims and SLIRchat we'd have the need for ninety percent of the travel and places to travel to and from eliminated, right?

Great satire, Suezanne.
Sadly, most people just "stand around" because not all of us are good at getting our hands dirty with prims and animations. I should show you some of my automated scripts sometime.
