For those of us with builds that aren't quote "in the know," I'd like to propose a "Randomized Features" tab added to the Find menu.
Basically how I would see this working:
- Builds with fewer than X dwell/traffic per square meter are placed into a pool, where percent chance of being selected is based in proportion to land size (to prevent "land split" issues). - Every 24 hours (or acceptible period), ten random listings are chosen from the pool to appear in this new "Find" tab - The pool is then recycled, where the previously selected entries cannot be added to the randomizer pool for another set interval
The idea is to statistically give everyone their "fifteen minutes of fame" without forcing them to put up a club, game, or simply get lucky. Thoughts?

Needs a catchier name.
"Unknown Treasures"?
"Grab Bag"?
"Unexplored... something"?
"15 Minutes of Fame"?
"I Feel Lucky"?
I like the idea, generally. Would you have categories of any kind?

It's great that you suggested this but I can't agree with the concept.
I have long held the belief that LL should not throw crutches out to people. If you want exposure to the masses you either throw a lot of money at it or come up with a unique concept. If everyone else is paying why should someone get a possible freebie just because they have a smaller build?
I know from personal experience that unique concepts will get you attention. If that attention comes from LL you may find some free press. But, I do not feel we should add more tabs to randomly reward those may or may not have something worth seeing.
Now, if one of these private ad agencies (Metadvertise? or whatever they are called) wants to sponsor a contest that would be great. They could place ads out for the winner. That sort of private enterprise should be encouraged.

The theory behind a randomizer is, as always, to give the little guy at least a chance at traffic. Think of it as a pick-me-up for the marketting-impaired - sure, we're giving you free random exposure for 24 hours, but after that, you're on your own, bud. I also rally against the statement that "novel ideas bring free exposure." If that were true, many GNU programs out there would be industry standards as opposed to, say, Photoshop (vs the GIMP), 3D Studio Max (Blender), or other programs (aside: Firefox had to wait until the media put them on the radar, if you'll recall). Money, connections, and dumb luck tend to bring you exposure - and in this case, the far latter is emphasized. And as a footnote, I'm speaking as someone with some pretty unique stuff under my belt. Besides - is it technically such a bad thing? In a general sense, such a system would favor large land area residential and artistic builds, which could use appreciation in Second Life. Things like Seaclif, for example. Or Tayzia's Art Gallery. I can't vouch for their current traffic numbers, but I'd bet a pretty penny they're not anywhere as high as any given club or megastore. Furthermore, since the theory here places emphasis on land area for chance of the draw, it would give people one more incentive to tier up. That said, I'm not sure I see the problem. --- And Nekokami, that's a thought... though frankly, categorizing stuff is difficult at best.
