Games Sim with "no outside scripts" up to 500m. You can teleport directly to land parcels from Find Places.

Edit to add thread reference:

This feature request is a proposal which could provide for exploit-resistant persistent online gameworld creation within SL.

It would probably be an island yeah. Do islands have "no outside scripts" up to 500m?

I'm just going to keep bumping this. Unless I'm missing something, it seems like this is the only thing separating us from being able to create persistent game-worlds within SL.

And I reallllyyy want to create persistent game-worlds within SL :-O

I think its a pretty safe bet that an island sim that has no contact with the grid cant be affected by scripts running outside it, no matter how far away from the continent said island is placed... I mean you cant even see them. Try going to darkwood and setting your draw distance to 512 meters... no cayman.
Sims have to be adjacent to interact with each other.

Eggy, I think Azelda means no scripts other than those being run by the landowner. It appears that the 15m (?) limit is in place on private islands as well. In other words, not a script running from another sim, but, a script running in an attachment I have on.

Although, looking at the customizable terrain and sun features coming in 1.4 for private islands, I wonder if this isn't something that can be modified also.

And yes, you'll never be able to see a sim within your draw distance that you can't make a path to, so, Cayman can never see anyone else and vice-versa. Or, as I liked to try, Avalon from Purple.

However, you can see Kissling from the southern edge of Gray, given enough draw distance and time for stuff to load. I used to see Teal from Maroon back before the Micronesian sims came into being. I can even see around that 1-sim hole in the southern sims near Baker (?), pretty nifty

For info, thread's starter post edited to add reference to initial discussion thread on exploit-resistant persistant online gameworlds within SL.

If you had an island, and set it all to no outside scripts, wouldnt that mean people couldnt mess with your stuff using orbiters?

Eggy,

'Outside Scripts', at least in this case and in the land UI, refers to scripts owned by people other than the creator. It does not refer to scripts not on your parcel, and in fact has no effect on scripts not on your land - even if they are effecting things on your land. I have not played with it but others have said that enabling this option on your land only limits others scripts to a certain height. Azelda wants a way to ensure that in his game environment only his scripts will work, to prevent cheating.

I think you missed the bit about the island. I meant that if you own a sim, and its an island, there is a single plot for a single owner, meaning that if you set No Outside Scripts people wont be able to run any of their scripts on your land.
Since its an island not connected to any other sim, there are no other parcels from which malicious scripts can interact with your game.
That height thing is just silly though, didnt it use to be 40 meters?
LL can set all kinds of options for owners of private sims, so if they cant turn off this silly limit yet, they should add it.
Anyway, what Azelda originally proposed was a sim in the middle of a bunch of land set to No Outside Scripts... which would be just as easily defeated by the height "feature" as my island idea would.
Hmm, would No Scripts + No Build+ No Fly work? Does teleporting into an island preserve flight status?
Even if they are flying, you can rez a grid of attractors that use llPushObject to keep people on the ground :)
Since they can't build the only thing that can contain scripts are attachments. But if they are successfully constrained to under 15 or 40 meters or whatever that silly limit was, then their attachments wont work and you have achieved unexploitability. Right?

There are tons of ways of getting objects into your land: fly them there, drag them in, or wear them as an attachment.

Whilst we cant prevent objects coming in, we can at least neutralize them so theyre much less malevolent.

The height for "no outside scripts" is just a number configured on the SL servers; theres no reason why it couldnt be a different number. The only question is: to what extent is the number hard-coded and /or global to all sims and to what extent is it configurable on a per-sim basis?

By the way, I just checked, a little belatedly I admit, and Strife is right. The "no outside scripts" icon will appear up to really high up (maybe infinity), but actually scripts will run, eg in attachments, down to really low down. You pretty much have to stand on the ground for them not to run...
