I know now that quite a lot of members in Second Life are getting kind of annoyed with lag in the sandboxes because of people building really big (and nice) space ships etc.

Wouldnt is be a good idea for Second Life to make 4 extra sandboxes like below:

S1 | S2
---------
S3 | S4

So 4 sims next to each other like that?

Then people making BIG HUGE space stations and spaceships can make them as big as they want..?

Do you agree?

Possibly a single sim for gigantic things, but having them be side-by-side has no point, you can't connect them across the sims like that, and really, do we want to ENCOURANGE the construction of something that takes 4 sims to rez?

I think anyone would be for more sandboxes, but I would be against limiting use to large structures/spaceships because sandboxes should be open to anyone, i have seen people who have jewlery that is probably more prims than a space ship. The creators of said stuff need a space to work too :D

before we start how manny actually use the sand box to build and not a place to hang out with friends.

most people who do gigantic builds usely were the first ones in that sim at the time its a first come first serve thing so rather than say no we look at this from a community aspect only thing i hate is those people who waste space rezzing huge spheres for no apprent reason.and i know they were told to stop because they will alway say "hey a linden just immed me and told me to stop with the huge sphere."

mabey thay can split the sims up liek 2 for large builds one for particles and vehicles

one no script and one that uses all of the options

its not realy a issue with what is built but more like where do you put it once its done.

oh yea i got ideas that use way more than 4 sims butid need sl support for that or be well off.

ok then but we need someone to be in the sandbox 24/4 like a patrol officer that has rights to delete anything that is just going nowhere?

i say a big no

i think linden lab should encourage more peoples to have theyr own plot of land, sandboxes are good to make wacky experiments , maybe huge builds but shouldnt be the permanent free prims pit.

The real problem is that this one huge ship is being plopped down in the center of all the sandboxes EVERY day. It is not there to be actively worked on. It leaves very little room for others to work on anything of any size. It is misuse. If the owner just used one sandbox and was there working on it, fine. This seems more like a "Look At Me!".

as long as somebody doesn't build something that's 256x256x768 meters you can always just build in the sky above them. sl is 3D.

and if they do build something that big just build inside it. it's probly not solid. :D

oh yay now we get to deal with land barons who over charge just to make a nonexistant profit yea that the answer also people buy land for what they need. and manny people arent rich so its not like i can go and buy a island most college student cant afford that.

when most builber build they are usely on their onw its no group of people building these thing so it safe to say logically if i could buy a sim i would but the general community dosent have 1000 to buy it and 200 a month to keep it up. you could ask people to help you pay for it buy then you have to prove you idea is going some where and most people cant beleive that the builders are actually doing it.

Whatever the arguments, I can't see anything bad about more Sandboxes. When I'm in there, it's usually because I'm building a gigantic house of some sort and I don't have the land to do it or I want to build on-axis and with the position as whole numbers.

I usually get there at 4 so I am assured an "uncrowded" area.

The problem isn't generally with big builds, in my experience-- It's with the tiny little pieces of crap scattered about. Granted, I usually build a few meters up in the air so that I'm on a whole number, but it's still kind of annoying. And who knows if the person who owns the crap will come back at some point and want to work on it?

Anyway, maybe I'm just whining, but the way I see it, the more open space, the better. I like the idea of a few more Sandboxes under the ones already there.

Does that mean that there will be more hooligans to fill the space? Maybe. But isn't that the only risk?

Why aren't they doing that already? They should Return, though. Not Delete.

aslo with huge builds it may just be a thing of improving your building or you want support for what you are doing so its like a painter working on the street

I've filled the sandboxes with junk a few times but have always, always strived to be mindful of my fellow avatars. I'll tend to ask in advance just to make sure there is good communication, and if someone is unpleasant and nasty and junking physical detrius about and won't respond to reason, then well, an Abuse Report gets filed or a Linden is called (if said offense continues for a prolonged amount of time). A Linden Liaison can also be called to help out if a sandbox is down (crashed) for a long period of time, or if there's an extreme amount of clutter which was left behind and is getting in the way of many.

I like to clean up after myself too, but maybe that's just 'cuz I'm a tidy catbot. :)

I think there should be more sandboxes myself - but just one would do, I think.

What we need more urgently, actually, is the sandboxes being reset more often. They're reset, what, twice a day right now? So if someone's so unkind as to leave their sh- er, prims - lying around, it stays there for up to 12 hours? That's ridiculous.
I know some people'll complain that they're in there working for more than 6 hours; Take a break, pick your stuff up, come back later. It isn't such a big deal if you ask me.
