here's a thought for the lindens. leave the rating system in place but remove the ability to assign negative ratings. let us keep "no rating" and "positive." then we can positively rate things we like, and simply not bother with things we don't. "no rating" won't necessarily mean negative, just that they've not done anything to overly impress us into giving them a positive rating.

alternate solution:
An interesting suggestion made to me by a non-SL player: Make ratings fade after a certain time period, say, a month. - You need to keep interacting with people to gain benefits from dwell - Rate parties can't permanently benefit a person - neg rates fade with time - much more similar to the ebay rating system - leaderboard not determined largely by people abusing the system Additionally, I realize two other changes might need to be made to accomodate: - the bonus for ratings increased, as people will obviously average a lot less rating - a simpler way to see ratings, so you know when to rerate people. I would suggest putting your ratings for a person right in a person's profile. _____________________

95% of the ppl with Negative rating out there earned them. So I think they should definately stay.
I do like the fading idea. One neg fades in 60 days, but if you got a second neg it would reset the timer and extend it. Frankly negative rating don't bother me at all. I have my neg for having too much land I'm very proud of that one and a 3 spot from Ken Virgo for selling Adult animations then being too chicken to even own up to it. Anybody know where he lives i'd like to return the favor? |

Ok, so now all we can give are positive rates. And then we still have people gaming the system, which doesn't address the point of the system being fundamentally broken.
If a newbie barely a week old can have more rates in the building column than maxx monde, the system is broken. LF _____________________

Just get rid of ratings altogether, and get rid of dwell too while we're at it.
SL has a lot of good ideas. Those aren't. _____________________
