Some suggestions. Rather more than I thought at the start but they seem to go together.

1) It would be nice to have the ability to take a box if items (however obtained) and convert it so that it becomes a folder in the same location with the "same" contents that the box had previously.

2) Optionally have the process be recursive (ie boxes within boxes become folders within folders)

3) The reverse of the above two options (pack the contents of a folder into a box)

4) Make the deletion of the source an option after the completion of the packing/unpacking.

Good idea. I often find myself wanting to unpack a box in an area where I can't build, and therefore not rez the box to open it. The inventory should treat these boxes like zipped folders on a computer.

I'm clapping for your suggestion of multi-packing. Cheers for that!

Multi-level unpacking should be manual...

You don't want to automatically expand all sub-boxes, since some of those may be scripted or complex objects and not boxes.

Multi-level packing may be hard to implement.

One problem with this suggestion is that the operation of rezzing a box in-world and putting things in it makes sure that the permissions on the box are correct. In-inventory manipulations of permissions are only applied on rezzing. This would tend to make mistakes in permissions more likely.

The idea was that multi level unpacking should be optional. One way to do this would be Open a window (in exactly the same way that the "Open" command does for a box on the ground and within this window show the Boxes as folders. Expand to folders those boxes the user opens (showing boxes as sub-folders). The default action should be to only expand the base level box but a check box could be included to force recursive expansion.

As Siouxdax pointed out in some places unpacking is currently not possible and you have to go elsewhere to unpack. You also remove the necessity to clean up yourself (nothing gets created on the ground).

I generally attach to HUD Center to unpack.
