This could be a fun little land option, I primarily envision it used in games, making it easier to sneak up on someone.

This is unlikely to be implemented, due to privacy concerns. Unfortunately, privacy is already hard enough to come by; a feature like this would make it far too easy for perverts like myself to sneak up on other avatars and observe them "in flagrante".
One option that has been suggested, which might be of interest to you, is an option to turn on a "cone of silence" in land that you own. It would set aside a certain amount of cubic space, and when you activate the silent feature, you and everything in that space would suddenly disappear from everyone else's view, including the map. You would also lose sight of everything not within your cone of silence. This would provide privacy from the outside world when you want it; you could invite others into your cone, and if they're on your guest list, they suddenly become able to see you and your objects as soon as they are within the pocket space. If someone is not on your guest list, then they are a phantom to you and vice versa. They might fly through your house, or even through you, and neither of you would know of the others' existence. I think it was Jeff Gomez who suggested it; if you search the term "cone of silence" you should find the thread. ![]() |

What Unhygenix said. I also think while "it would be nice," any solution as intricate as "silence by region" would require a major rewrite of the client-server code that's already implemented.
On the other hand, it is debatable whether private estate owners should be allowed this option - I think, however, that this would need to be case-by-case for LL, due to privacy concerns. Another thought that would be a heck of a lot simpler: llForceHideMinimap(). Concensual when you want it (need that script to participate in the game!); not there to screw with privacy. _____________________

Well, but if it's a land option, would that be so much of a privacy issue? Probably there should be some status indicator, just as there is for unsafe land, indicating that this is "non-private" land or something, and anyone there would know they wouldn't be able to see other avatars in the minimap. I can certainly see the game value, and I don't even write that kind of game.
I *wouldn't* want to see this as a feature per avatar or attachment. I accept invisibility hacks as a workaround for making more interesting avs (like that cool skeleton last fall), but the avs should always show up on the maps in normal land. Just a thought, neko _____________________
