This has been suggested in its own way a few times. The bottom line is it's difficult to trigger "inventory" commands in this manner. :(

seems like they could just take whatever happens when you double click clothes in inventory and paste it into the gesture code and make it another choice like "start animation" or "play sound". but i'm the last person in the world to say "this change should be an easy one" when i have NO IDEA WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT. :D

Yep. If this was achieved, we would be able to take our hat off and greet everyone even at the welcome area.

Start Animation: Greeting (Putting his right hand on his head and bowing while lowering his hand)
--- Wait: 0.5 sec
Detach Object: The hat (worn on his head)
Wear Object: The hat (copied beforehand and attached to his right hand)
Chat: Greeting, everyone!
--- Wait: until animations done
Start Animation: Putting the hat on (Putting his right hand on his head)
---Wait: 0.5 sec
Deatch Object: The hat (worn on his right hand)
Wear Object: The hat (attached to his head)

You could make a pretty nifty effect even now by using two alpha-changing hats (one on head, one in hand) and an animation that puts the avatar's hand in the position where the two hats would perfectly overlap at a known time. Reverse visibilities on the hats and continue the animation. Same on the return. I'd love to see someone do this!

Though neither I nor my avatar wear hats...

While this is all possible now, it still wouldn't run in the WA's due to no outside scripts. I am all for any improvements that give us greater control over our avatars and gestures.
