For the love of all things codely, please remove the auto-indent features of the editor, or at least make it an option that I can disable. Almost all of the time, the stupid thing just gets in my way and does exactly what I don't want it to do. I doubt I'm alone in this.

Definitely don't disable it, it works exactly the way I want it to. Make it an option I guess.

I like it. (It's not quite up to par with, well, .NET's for that matter... But it's FAR better than nothing.)

Interesting. In my case it actually is much worse than nothing, because it actively decreases my productivity more than not having autoindenting in the first place would. For example, I hate when I decide to put an extra line of code at the end of a block by pressing enter on the line with the close-brace, and the editor indents it out for me a little more. Maddening. I'd use an external editor, but alt-tabbing from SL takes a long time. Maybe I'll code on notecards and copypaste.

I agree the auto-indent is worse than nothing.

This is a matter of personal opinion, but I would much prefer just a plain old vanilla Windows text editing control to the perverse behavior of the SL script editor. I can't really tell what it is trying to do, the way that it wants to indent is different enough from how I want to edit that I never find it's way of doing things by accident.
Allowing the use of an external editor would be very nice.

From: SuezanneC Baskerville Allowing the use of an external editor would be very nice. Plenty of people use an external editor. Myself, for example... I use SciTE-ez with the LSL functions.

I liked the auto-indent as well, but have since moved to SciTE-ez. I don't know how I ever managed to script without SciTE-ez. The two major benefits are that I can scale the font larger enough to read from across my living room, and the scripts are stored offline - so I can print them, and even work on them at work.
The slow ALT-TAB can easily be solved by running SL in a fullscreen window. In my case, the edges of the window are all off-screen, except a slight bit of title-bar at the top. Makes it easy to have all of your construction programs running at once... web browser, graphics program, script editor and SL itself.

Greg My personal favorite feature of SciTE-ez is the ability to collapse a section of code I'm not interested in so that I can display more of the relevent code at once. Also makes the view less cluttered if long trees of logic can be hidden when I don't need to work on them. I also love the ability to print off a script with just a click of the button, all nicely formated (No ugly copy-paste into notepad... colors and all), along with line numbers. Lets me run off a problem I'm puzzling over and stick it in my bag when I go to class or work... Lets me pull it out and jot down notes and ideas and study it without the hassle of digging my laptop out and setting it up.

*blerts out* why not make script windows little real windows. And use SCIntilla for the text editing modual? *shuts mouth*
