I have noticed in the past month or so a rash of questions being asked by new residents that don't seem to fit anywhere in particular, and they've popped up in many different areas of the forums.

Most have ended up posting in the General section, which can get have the result of getting buried, or ignored.
(Not to mention getting bashed or ridiculed by opportunistic posters)

I was thinking if there was a "safe" or "safer" separate section clearly marked near the top of the discussions list, it would be a place where new residents could find easily and get the help they need more quickly, efficiently and with less likelihood of getting stomped on or bypassed.

Ideas for what the heck to call such a section:
SL Basics
General Help for New Residents
New Resident Q&A

Anyhow I welcome any suggestions on how to flesh this out.
We are getting more and more new people in and I've seen an increasing need to have somewhere (highly visible) where these sorts of questions that fall between the cracks can be asked and handled.

I second this idea! Had been thinking the exact same thing....a place with permanent and easy to find links to wiki's, history, tutorials, etc that doesn't get bogged down with forum drama.
