Just as a storage place for L$ and maybe objects, to stop your Inventory from getting overflowed and will hopefully this might reduce lagg and will make the Items in your inventory load faster, as sometimes it takes time for your objects to appere in your invetory. Lithrin

I don't see much purpose in a bank... Not like someone can hold us up at gunpoint and force us to give our money to them within SL... On the other hand, A inventory Archive could be an idea. Old items you don't or rarely use can be put in there, perhaps autoarchive option, to prompt you to move items in there... "You havn't used 'WadofPrims' in 30 days, would you like to move it to Inventory Archival?" Drop down menus next to list of each item... Defaulting to a setting of Not at this time, with options to select a category (folder/subfolder) Create new category or use current.

Stop being a jerk. And perhaps next time I'll create a entirely new thread just for you, even though there already exists a thread with similar mention of a subject. There's no reason at all for your attitude over anyone adding a comment on a existing thread while making effort in some manner to be constructive. An interesting quote I saw in someones(forget whos) signature today, from Babylon 5 that I can't resist putting here: "Ah, arrogance and stupidity all in the same package. How efficient of you." - Londo Molari

All I was saying was stop necroposting. I was not being a jerk. The use of an exclamation mark (!) does not suggest anger or rudeness. You responded to a thread that was over 6 months old as if it was posted 20 minutes ago. Relax. It's just a metaverse.

Alright then, So you believe it inappropriate to use an existing thread to post my own thoughts on a old idea, just because the thread itself is old... Doesn't seem these thread is obscenely long and unlikely for anyone to see what I added. Also seems that doing it this way allows someone to see the other persons suggestion and perhaps think on that as well from their own perspective. And all you can say to add to this is, Quit Necroposting... Well friend, that to me seems both unnecessary and uncalled for. So indeed I replied with, "Stop being a jerk." A gruff way of saying it perhaps, but that's me. I did try to put a bit of sarcasm to that, within the same paragraph. And by no means do I mean you are a jerk by what I said. I don't know you well enough to form such an opinion. Simply meant it to imply that it was unnecessary for you to come in and tell me to quit for little or no cause. Also would appreciate instead looking at what I was saying and offering some constructive input in place of that comment you took the time to make. As for your attitude, I can only assume, this is all type, after all. Though, coming from nowhere only to say quit does carry a certain air of that. Back to the original post, if you wouldn't mind considering, what it would offer to have such a system, be it bank or archival of old inventory. Might you have some useful input to add? Perhaps a better idea even? Albeit, these would be of low priority in any case. I do believe that systems encouraging a cleaner and more organized inventory system would at the very least be beneficial to us individually, if not perhaps offering some meager reduction on asset server loads as a bi-product. Also realizing that having a automated system asking you to archive things when ya log in the first time on a given day would probably be annoying to people. Perhaps an alternative would be to have something of a red Bar in the inventory window. could say something to the effect of. "You have items unused for 30+ days. Click here to Archive them!" On a side note, I ramble on to much!

I don't think there's anything wrong with so-called necroposting, I'd kinda assumed the "stop necroposting" posts were like a running joke. Anyway, OT:
Can't we just put items we want to archive in a prim?

That's what I did, Catherine Omega as my witness. Multiselect sure makes 'em easier to get out, but it sure is a pain to wait for contents to load if you have like 500 items in one prim.

Not to butt in (says the butting-in person), but necroposting is better than starting the topic without looking to see if there was already an existing one.
If we get a bank, it'll be like all banks in all MMORPGs-- crashing often and wiping out their contents, upsetting the users and causing more headaches than Zaphod Beeblebrox ever had.

I just have a top level folder called !Attic, and more !Attic folders in particularly busy subfolders.

Well, that's why I'm not suggesting a bank myself, its kinda pointless and inconvenient idea for SL. But an Archive, maybe? A separate part of the inventory itself, working just like a !Attic folder as mentioned Argent Stonecutter. Only with a bit of SL code behind it. Like a notice in your inventory window that you have old items that can be archived etc.. Things in this folder wouldn't be hit by a Inventory Search unless you specify it to do so.
Basically the idea would be similar to how GMail handles its archive, anything in there is stored out of way unless you specifically open it or specify the search to look there. It would simplify things for some of us, giving an easier way to move our unused things out with a system built for it instead of using prims etc. Those do work, but aren't really designed for that purpose, so when you do need to get at that list of items, which prim is it in, how long does it take to get the prims contents etc.
I can't say for everyone else, but I am personally terrible about organising and storing my inventory. If it takes more than 5 seconds to deal with stuff, I won't, unless it becomes intolerable at which point its do messy to figure out! LOL
I don't have much of a issue with my inventory loading up, I'm not a constant shopper like others, most of my mess comes from building things and scripting at random and tossing the tidbits off to the side to be forgotten. So in a way, I suppose this sort of idea is for Lazy slobs like me who cannot be bothered to keep track of their stuff! Also it would be nice to have something to encourage better organization, which this I think will do a little.

Interesting idea, setting this as a property flag on a folder... Perhaps via a menu option and marking the folder, "Contents Hidden" or "Archival Folder," something to that effect, on the right of it. And clicking on that message(like a hyperlink, the "Contents..." marker underlined) forces it to display its contents and makes it available to future searches and/or marking in filters to show archival contents and include in searches.
