I am a boat owner and have property beside a Linden Waterway.
When I take the boat out all is fine until such time as I come across No Script land or Access Limited land, both give too little warning to easily let me avoid them.
What I really want to do is to be able to easily follow the linked Linden Waterways, but its so hard to track them - walking along them underwater is a good way, since they always have lots of weed - turning on property lines is essential, but they just don't show up well enough to let me safely control my boat to stay on the Linden Waterway.
A really simple "low cost" navigation aid that would help me "learn" new waterways would be if all "Governor Linden" water belonged to a "group" that any of us were free to join (no not to sell them !!!) but to let us turn on the "property owners" feature, which is highly visible - albeit not very world realistic. When we belong to the same group and turn on property owners the Linden Water is highlighted in Blue (very appropriate) with all other land highlighted pink. The "feature" looks awful - the colours clash - but does let sailors learn new routes easily and cheaply.
Lets go sailing in Second Life. Will you support a proposal recommending this feature?

Lets use the waterways

If this helps people sail the waterways easily then I think its a great idea.
All of these no go areas can be a real nuisance.

I agree, its a bit tricky to stay on course on Linden waterways. What I do is click "about land" on the upper left side of my screen while I'm on Linden water land, and it highlights all Linden water in the sim with yellow outlines which are more visible than the "show property lines" outlines. I then minimize the "about land" popup and sail along over the yellow-outlined water. The only problem with this is that you have to go through the process every time you enter a new sim.
I like your suggestion though, and agree there should be an easier way to navigate the waters.

This is the same basic problem that fliers have... there's no way to really be sure you're not running into access controlled land. We really need to have the access controlled land hilighted on the mini map so we can see it in time to avoid it.

The best and most inclusive feature would be a "highlight by criteria" option. Basically, you open the mini-map and click on it to open the map, in here is a button called "Highlight" or such. When this opens it gives you a list of options, such as: - No script - No access - No creation - Autoreturn and enter an value that you want auto-return to be HIGHER than (where zero is of course higher since it means autoreturn is off) etc. etc. You can then check all the ones relevant to your boat, and these parcels will now be highlighted on your mini-map, and (if you choose to do so) in world as well. Now you can fly, sail, drive and walk with visible signs of potential problems
