Cheap Lighting

Local Lighting is PAINFULLY slow. There must be an easier option, one that doesn't strive for more quality than we need. I'm talking about a bargain, shortcut route to having lights that affect the brightness of their surrounding objects.

Activeworlds has been doing it since 1997: There is a point of light in space; this point is given a radius around it, and all vertexes within this radius are given a boost to their ambience levels proportionate to how close they are to the center of the radius. They gave controls for brightness, color, range, angle (if a spotlight or a radial light) and effects like pulsing, flaurecent flickering, flashing, or wavering (like fire). Sure they didn't have shadows, but why don't we have that? why don't we have a cheap, dirty, simple method to making the insides of our homes not PITCH BLACK at night?
What is it about light that is so incredibly hard for SL?

When I first turned on local lighting and saw my FPS at 64 meter draw distance drop to ZERO POINT FIVE, i got the distinct impression that the game was trying to do something like hammering a nail with a NUCLEAR DETONATION. That's a tad extreme! A LITTLE to complicated for something that should be VERY simple! Do we really need that?

I'll just come out and say it. THE LIGHTING SYSTEM RIGHT NOW IS BLOATWARE. Needs an overhaul. Cut out a bunch of garbage and unneeded processing, then it'll at least look halfway decent between having working light AT ALL --and-- a framerate above NADA.

How's it sound?

As one of my main things in SL are designing lamps and light.... (Plus furniture) Oh yes I would love a better system - If I am forced to redo all my designs I will do it if so...

I have tested it in the preview..

Right now its flickering or on or of or on or of blink blink.... .. but that must be a bug...

The raduius are from start set to 10 meters and I will love if it are set to a procent of what you design/build.. as start.. or you must reset it all the time...on every piece..

Very nice... and exciting!!!

I will redo all my lamps in my store when its out working.. That will take some time.. and al of you that want to exchange lamps IM me.. I cant promise to do it all first day or first month..but some day it will be done. IRL are in the way-)))

The preferences are changed to.. .and the ”ansiotropic filtering” cant suddenly NOT be X in my settings.. I can in the now used version but not in the preview sims... same card same comp...
