I can enter paragraphs of text in this forum text box and the text persists.
Time for the new three-D web to do the same.

From: Draco18s Majestic What the heck are you asking for? In the text box you used to enter your question, you can type on more than one line, and the text wraps to the next line. This is multi-line text entry, a method of entering text that lends itself to composing paragraphs. Note how the text that we type in the forum one day is still there the next day. It persists. This is persistent text.

From: Phoenix Psaltery So you're wanting what? A permanent record of chat in-world? or the ability to skip lines? P2 Multi-line text entry means having a text box to enter text in an entry field that is more than one line tall. Persistent text means being able to enter into a mode where the text you type with others is stored permanently. The multi-line text entry is to make it easy to move beyond grunts and barks when communicating, to express thoughts that require a bit more space in which to flourish. Persistent text would be very useful for groups. Being able to look back on what was said the day before. To start a discussion and table it for the evening, then be able to open the session again and proceed from that point. The ability for people to enter a session in progress, review the chat that took place prior to their arrival, and proceed from there. For SL purposes the channel 0 chat might need to stay transient like it is.

That not only confirmed that I knew what you were talking about, but also reinforced my question as you didn't answer it. From: SuezanneC Baskerville Multi-line text entry means having a text box to enter text in an entry field that is more than one line tall.
Persistent text means being able to enter into a mode where the text you type with others is stored permanently. This is again, a reitteration of things we already know. Where do you want these fetures? Why? How does it benifit the community? From: someone The multi-line text entry is to make it easy to move beyond grunts and barks when communicating, to express thoughts that require a bit more space in which to flourish.

Personally if I want multiple lines in chat, I type the first, copy/paste it to a temporary storage area, then type the next line, move it out of the chat bar (temp storage #2) copy/paste the first line, then the second. I rarely need this kind of ability in SL, mostly one when what I want to type is too long, hence why we've asked that the number of characters in messages be increased.

I hope the group notices system system in 1.12 isn't the "asynchronous communication" system said to be taking over part of the function of the soon to be vanishing forums.
