So... I was wondering... we have the Forums, and with that Private Messaging, we have Instant Messaging in-game, etc. etc... But wouldn't it be extremely cool to have our own Second Life e-mail addys? I hate having to pick through my AOL mail to find Second Life stuff, and it'd be another way for peoples' Help Stations to e-mail the owner when a card is taken without crowding other e-mail accounts.

Okay, you get the idea. Anyone else for this suggestion?

I like the idea. It would be cool to be able to send an email while in game too. IM works, but I know some get slammed with IM when they log on and your message might get lost in the mix.

Yeah, that would be neat. Have function calls in world to send and check one's email also. (And, maybe, just maybe, have the current email LSL command working.)

I assume you mean a mail forwarding system? I'd be very surprised if LL wanted to take on the burden of a complete e-mail server for all users. But many organizations have forwarders in place for members. Every member of the ACM has an email address they can use for ACM forums etc, and mail sent to those addresses get forwarded on to the actual email address that the owner might not want to publicize.

You can already send email from LSL scripts. There was a function to check your email as well, but it was either removed or made linden-only way back in beta, prolly before i joined.

Yes, however you can only send email to the object's owner's email, at least from my uunderstanding....

Nope, from my tests it worked for various adresses. They were all at the same domain though, haven't tried a different one, but can do that when I get home [SL doesn't work on my Mobility 7500 :-(]. If that works, lets hope no spammer discovers SL. Edit: Works to any address at all. 20s timer can easily be circumvented.

With a 20 sec delay, even with some very creative hacking (read creative programming) and scripts, its not a very fast spamming mechanism. There are easier and cheaper ways to do it.
for the getEmail functions to work I almost think they would have to offer a full email and not a forwarder. At least in some regards. I imagine it will be sorta like SMS text messaging emails - limited in length and such.

Isn't there a way to IM someone in game via e-mail now? If so, anyone care to clue me in.

This will be a great feature. HankRamos@secondlife.com. Now, if somebody wants to grief, they just have to add my email to some spam list!
If this is implemented, please setup a spam filter or at least the ability to opt out of it.

From: someone Originally posted by Mickey Valentino Isn't there a way to IM someone in game via e-mail now? If so, anyone care to clue me in. 1) turn on "Send IM to email" 2) convince them to IM you while you're offline 3) reply to email you got No way to initiate a connection from the outside in. I asked about this a couple townhalls ago, and it was said they do not do this because of spam potential.
