Add two boxes for us to specify the minimum and maximum altitudes for streaming media. If an avatar is above or below that window, nothing gets streamed to them.

Let's say that I want to go to a movie house and watch something without paying. I fly way high up in the sky over the owner's parcel and don't pay. At this point I can listen to the soundtrack. If I know what texture they are using and have it, I can watch as well. The point here is that I am using someone's bandwidth without paying for it, when they expect to be paid.

Now, if I build a movie house that is on the ground, I could set minimum to 0 and maximum to the height of the roof (say 50). If I buld it in the sky, I could set the minimum and maximum accordingly. Anyone who tries to get in without paying is ejected and can't defeat that by simply flying over or under the theater.

This would apply to MP3 streams as well as video.

Approved. This would reduce the "I don't want to hear your stream as I fly by" problem as well.

Do people actually do that? Haha!

I endorse this suggestion.

Huns, there have been some threads where people have complained about the fact that if you enabled streaming audio in your preferences, it defaults to automatically playing the stream when you travel from parcel to parcel. Some people don't like the patch work of music they get when flying from telehubs to final destinations. Your suggestions may not completely change things such that this doesn't happen, but I am guessing it could potentially help a great deal. Of course some people will just leave their settings at 0 and whatever the ceiling is on the max so that they can listen to their streams in their skyboxes or what not. Can't please everyone all the time. /shrug

That's true, I think music should be off by default for exactly that reason and you should have to manually press the play button.

I've gotten to the point that I just leave my system muted unless I think something is happening that I specifically want to listen to.

I think the default height for sound should be the default height for the red bars on land property, whatever that is. (30 m?) People can adjust it upward if they have particularly tall builds, but it should suit most people's needs, and would reduce the "music patchwork" effect, not to mention the noticeable lag I seem to get on my system when crossing land boundaries with audio set.

Yep. I keep streaming music off and pipe in MP3s. :D

I endorse this feature, but I'm not sure what priority it can be given,

Why not post it as a voting proposition, and find out ?

Brilliant.

I like the idea of ranging both the effect of the media URLs and land bans. Opens up new options (Private skybox, public house) and it means we can dump those STUPID security scripts, 'cuz the land tools are managing it. (Of course, if we could add scripted functions like turning on or off group only access, script management of the ban list, script management of the "allow only these avatars" list...)

Might want to consider allowing avs to fly over the max height (by 10 meters would do) to make it pretty much impossible to cut someone off entirely from where they're headed.

Would making this 256 meters AGL or 512 meters tall globally, whichever you hit first be a problem? Hmm

Oh, and this could eventually be incorporated into the "don't even rez me" idea, where a person can set their parcel invisible - this would let it be partial. Über-private!

um... I'm getting tangential. A clear sign it's time to hit "send"...

It all sounds grand, but we MUST NOT make things even more difficult for a person trying to fly past. Its bad enough already, what with getting trapped as buildings rezz around you, and getting thrown to the corner of the sim, even by the LL-provided passive land tools.
