sl water - seas, lakes and rives looks great, but when you go to the beach you can't automaticly swim.. would be nice if you automaticly swam and used may be Up and down to go up and down wards in water.. may be if you hit the surface then keep pressing up you can fly.

There is at least one AO where you can set an anim for swimming. It detects if you are underwater and changes your animations accordly. |

ATTRIBUTES for Objects/Areas Please?
07-12-2006 15:35
Yeah, as was said, there is "The Swimmer" (Animaton override with HUD.. about $300L), as well as a good swimming gesture you can use underwater (there's also a lousy one.. you can figure out which is the good and which is the bad. they are available in a box of animations/gestures at YadNi's Junk yard.)
We do need to be able to have an auto-swim mode... one thing that would be important to have is an ATTRIBUTE for an object/area. Something that says something is water, fire, wind, steam, smoke, electricty, lava, plasma, etc. |

The problem with the Swimmer is there's no API for interacting with it from scripts, which there would be for a Linden swimming mechanism. And Siggy has emphatically stated that there won't be such an API.

I use Siggy's Swimmer HUD and the Abranamations AO with swimming overrides. Both work well in certain circumstances. Fine products. The Swimmer, together with Siggy's 'prim swim water' and pools, allows you to set up swimming pools, lakes, and other bodies of water anywhere, and to swim in them. It has a current technical limitation that it does not work well if the bottom has a steep slope. (He's working on fixing that). The Abranamations AO allows you to 'fly' underwater, while animating you with appropriate swimming motions. It only works in Linden water, but it works regardless of how the bottom terrain is shaped.
I would agree that it would be nice if Linden Water, at the very least, had a default swim effect. But I believe that LL would prefer to leave that to the creativity and sales efforts of people like Siggy and the people at Abranimations. _____________________
Sorry, LL won't let me tell you where I sell my textures and where I offer my services as a sim builder. Ask me in-world.

But I believe that LL would prefer to leave that to the creativity and sales efforts of people like Siggy and the people at Abranimations. To be honest while content creators' efforts are lovely, i'd rather things like AO and automated support for water be part of the core client rather than 3rd party source of income. If just because having these functions as part of robust client code rather than clumsy LSL and associated work-arounds could free up quite a bit of sim resources now tied to processing AO checks and such... |
