I would suggest that LL store the object/data material for the sims and bring them back next year at this same time for a yearly celebration. This way they would never go away, but there wouldn't be the overwhelming sense that some people are being cheated out of having a sim for free, etc. I don't agree that it should stay permanently. But please, for big projects like this, let's make some holidays and things, bring them back for a day or two in the far future; could we please?

Having very cool previous builds reappear every so often could be fun.
Perhaps there could be like 3-4 sims set aside as "special" sims, and cycle the builds through them: Americana, Destruction Derby, NeverWorld, and so on. (And maybe in between times they would be a sandbox or racing sim perhaps? (Or the other way around: use sandbox or racing sims for this?) )
Course this all takes time to organize, and there are certain other costs, like the sim itself, but I'm thinking it could be combined into an effective marketing tool?

<bump>
This seems like a good idea to me -- dual sims, one of last year's space to be reworked, one for a fresh start from scratch next to it. Bring them both up two weeks before the holiday/event and work it into the new sponsored builds program that I saw being discussed a few days ago... Leave them up a week after, then it all disappears into the asset server until next time.
Seems like a way to preserve some things in a highly fluid world, and also to encourage a longer view of existence in said world.
(I always think of things *after* I hit the Submit button...)
Hmm... Then you're left wondering which sim to keep for next year. Nevermind on the dual sims then. Just bring back last year's to evolve into something new, but with (optional) continuity.
