The people at Linden Lab thought long and hard when they designed that implemented the telehub system of transportation. Their objectives were misplaced but their collective heart was focused as a burning ray on the community. It's wrong of us to question what is and isn't good for us.
So I think we should trust their better judgement and drop all discussion of p2p teleporting including any suggestion that telehubs be removed from the landscape.

I am for telehubs remaining. but your arguement is blasphemous(JK). not trying to flame so don't take any of this to heart, but just think about it. You don't think its right to question whats good and whats not for us? It is asked and requested for us to add input, this world is created by us and our joint actions. the lindens are the facilitators. it is healthy and nessessary to communicate about things we feel are important to the growth and maturity of the SL social order. blind faith isnt always healthy, even if it gets you where your going. On the topic itself of HUB VS NO_HUB: hubs are the only think keeping malls and clubs down to a roar. Without hubs ther wouldn't be a gathering point for these resource intense attractions. you wouldn't have the quiet residential areas you can find today. things would turn to private communities for structure and order, because mainland would be one huge clubbing, mall, tringo fest. in short hubs offer stability and order in a zone type of fasion. Look at RL zones work. but thats my opinion and I personally believe the topic should be widely discussed.

Now that the new, and much improved, voting page is back up, I've removed my five votes from the Pinpoint Teleporting proposal.

Going on three? They've served their purpose well. I seem to recall back in Asheron's Call, when it became overly easy to get anywhere, the game stopped being fun. If we could just show up anywhere, I think Second Life would suffer.

I'll continue to be for pinpoint teleporting, unless the greater good is somehow served by me having to relog everytime I go anywhere. If I have to travel more than a couple hundred meters, I'm almost inevitably dropped by some sim along the way and end up dropping through the ground when I arrive. Even without those problems, putting dozens of half-rezzed builds behind me as I try to get where I'm going never fails to be a laggy, time-wasting annoyance. Personally, I wonder how much bandwidth is wasted streaming builds and textures that the user doesn't want to see and, indeed, can't see by the time they actually rez. If the system, especially sim-crossing, worked smoothly it'd be one thing, but it doesn't.
So in conclusion, let's not.

So in conclusion, let's not. I agree. I'm tired of attachments disappearing, getting stuck in a rezzing building or box in the air, running into a mountain, or crashing right as I get to the place Im headed to and having to do it all over again. At least we should be given an option...as I have said before: Would you like to go directly to your destination? or Would you like to take the scenic route? I am not suggesting that they are done away with but, it would be nice to have a choice. That way both sides are covered. So people who want to teleport to a hub and then fly 900m to their destination can do so...and the people who want to make a direct tp can do so as well. I would aslo like to suggest that this be an option irl, that way when I am running late for work I can just do a direct tp and not have to deal with traffic and idiots who drive 10mph under the speed limit on a non-passable road. That is all ;P

No one can tell when Khamon is being facetious. Even me.

So in conclusion, let's not. Maybe we need a button to turn texture downloading off when we are traveling. And turn it back on when we arrive. I know i would use it all the time.

Lets see, these are the same people who think its a great idea to put a roof over a teleport so you will stop and see all the pertanent information and wonderful free SL content. I really love flying up and bopping my head on the roof of a telehub that hasn't rezzed yet so I can be sure to see free fireman avatar or mega prim beach house I can get! I know I am in too big a hurry and should slow down and read the informative kiosks on how to rezz a prim every time I use the telehub, I need to learn to appreciate all the hard work.. I need to stop and smell the prim roses.
What I really love is the grand tour I get to take when I teleport as well. I telepot to a sim telehub and once I have crashed a few times into the roof and made it past the cavern of tackey shops and billboards around it, I see my destination is a mere 300 meters away. I fly to the edge of the sim and come to a crashing halt, my quarry only 100 meters away but there is nothing but an empty sim ahead. I check the main map and find that yes, my sim is only 100meters away flying straight but alas, there is an empty void sim between me and my destination. I then get to take a 25 sim tour flight around the empty sims to reach my quarry. Once I manage to get to where I was going, I find the piece of land I went to look at was sold two days ago but is still in the land sales listing. Thanks LL for making me look at SL more extensively and helping me cope with stress through immersion
I am a better person for it really... twitch twitch

I am a better person for it really... twitch twitch Thanks I needed to laugh...its sad and true. I have had this happen to many times myself. I keep thinking it will all get better. I hope 1.7 helps some of the lag and rezzing problems. The hubs won’t go anyplace though to many have paid the cost to be by them and it means money when it's all said and done.
