LL, please stop throwing everything into the same folder. If I buy something with the buy command, put it in a Purchases folder. If someone drops crap on me or my profile, put it in a Gifts folder. "Objects" should be for what I "Take". Why not even a "Copies" folder for when I "Take Copy". And for the love of god let us sort by creator or something

On these lines, I'd LOVE a "returned items" folder.

I have a "Docking Bay" folder where I have to manually sort in items that have recently arrived, but I'd like to have this process automated. It's a good idea.

Yes please;
Lets just say my Object folder is best sorted by date, otherwise I can't find anything... (last time i cleaned it out was... april)

Very good idea.
More than once I have stared for what seemed like hours at my inventory trying to find something that I just purchased.
I probably shouldn't drink so heavily while playing.
But still.

as an avid shopper in SL.. this is a GREAT idea. I waste so much time looking for folders of or items that I have purchased! It is frequently and exercise in frustration!

Hell yeah! I was thinking about suggesting an "Inbox" folder, but I like your suggestion better.

...Adding Folders...
02-03-2005 14:59
Some of you already know this, I'm sure -
But you can Add folders to your Inventory! Anywhere! The Inventory area acts a lot like your "My Computer" or "Explorer" in Microsoft Windows.
To create a folder, select the existing folder you want the new one to reside in.
Then, either Right-Click and choose "New Folder", or click on the "Create" button at the top of your Inventory Window.
A new folder will appear - you can right-click it and choose "Rename", to give it the name you would like.
I personally do this with almost every purchase; and have a categorized system for tracking all of my various inventory objects.
You can create sub-folders almost anywhere - so I have seperate areas for clothing & attachments (for example); all stored outside of my "Objects" folder....
Dragging multiple items around in the Inventory would be a nice addition, though! When I have a set of items I want to make an outfit, or save all together, it would be nice to not have to drag them one at a time into the desired folder.
Take care,

I for one would love a search function that works like the iTunes search (as you type, items are removed from the list). What you type isn't restricted to the beginning of the name, either. A search field at the top of the window with options (check boxes for Clothing, Object, Sound, Texture) and a preview pane for textures and clothes would be sweet. 2.5, maybe?

I'm with Tread on this one...
I keep nothing in my 'objects' folder.
The second I buy anything or take, etc. I move it to wherever it belongs and create new categories/subcategories as needed...
EG: /animations -/dance -/static poses -/walk
/avatars -/human --/male ---/base_me <original avatar folder from day one...> ---/base_me_backup -/silly --/Tringo Bird
/clothing -/(some specific outfit/collection name) -/shirts <generic T-shirts, etc. good for either sex> --/female <tube tops, etc> --/male <male specific shirts. Is there such a thing any more?> -/underware --/female --/male
/CURRENT PROJECTS -/Lamborghini --/snapshot ---/2005_01_17 ---/2005_01_23 ---/2005_01_28 --/work_dir -/avatars --/robot
/vehicals -/land --/cars --/motorcycles -/air --/cubey
It may take some effort to get it organized properly in the first place, but you can make almost anything trivially easy to find. Start with broad catagories and make each subfolder more restrictive till you get to the exact item(s) you need.
Opening multiple inventory windows can help make item organization MUCH easier as well when moving stuff around.
If I'm keeping something for _ANY_ reason, it gets filed. If I'm not, it gets trashed. trash gets emptied last thing before I log out every time...
It's like keeping your bedroom neat. It only takes a few extra seconds each time to put stuff away properly. Let it slide and in a few weeks you can't find anything at all under the mess...

Please as well, let us property each folder by type of sort, maker, date, name, and what ever else that is needed. I need folders some by name, some by date. Keep the sorts the same until changed. Also, please let us permission items more then one at a time. I did 170 textures one night, took me all evening working on them. Thank you.
