I'd like to see a "Browse Inventory" button on the Profile panel. The only objects listed would be objects that av has created and has listed for sale. Too many times I've been told so and so has such and such for sale and never been able to connect with that particular person, or find their wares for sale inworld. By providing a Browse Inventory button you could get a list of everything that person has for sale and purchase it directly from the Profile window (or the inventory browser window that comes up from the profile window). This would be exceptionally helpful if the previously suggested Preview window was implemented as well.

This is pretty interesting concept Taun. I think it could lead to bigger things maybe. When I was reading your suggestion I was thinking, "But then I would not have to go to their store." And then I immediately thought about RL how many people shop from home via the net.
So, why not have an in world, online shopping network? A browser to shop for goods by category and store. The persons profile would link to their online store. The customer can decide to buy via the browser, based on description, or opt to visit the actual store to get a hands on look.
There will be set up and ongoing monthly fees (L$) paid by the retailer to LL for this optional service. But the advantage is easier access to their goods.
What do you think?

Hehe I would have suggested that but a lot of people have been saying an inworld browser would be painful to the system -- but I think that's only a browser that hooks into the real internet. I think it could work if it was just a glorified Notecard (we can create links in those already) that could have object embedded in it as well. A text-browser if you will, with "links" to images which are snapshots and embedded the same way we embed them now. HTML formatting wouldn't be requred and the Buy Now links could be the objects themselves (when clicked on it simulates a right-click > Buy command). The notecard gets embedded into your profile by dragging it into the text area and it's called up by clicking the notecard. I think this would require the least programming changes to the client and no changes to the SL world itself.

Well, I had it pictured laid out very similar to the current FIND menu. The way land sales are laid out. It just have a top category for the store name (or product category) and then the listing of the wares. You can click on the item and see the product on the right side and and instead of having a teleport button, there would be a buy button.
I didnt mean a link to the actual internet or a webpage format.

Oh okay, I think the word "shopping network" threw me into an internet mode of thinking. I like your idea, do you think it would take a lot of work on the part of LL client/server side? I was shooting for a solution that could be easily obtained using the tools we already have (first idea being the Inventory window, second the Notecard thing) and this fits the bill. I'm only concerned that it'll be a performance hit and Philip knows we don't need any more of those!

Im not sure. I like the idea you had about seeing a persons objects for sale on their profile, but the restriction would be not knowing to look at thier profile. If I know them it works, I can see what they have to sell. But, if I was looking for boats, I dont know everyone that may have a boat for sale.

Gotcha, an extension to the Find feature then! I like that, but wouldn't that just kill the server searching thru everyone's inventories or stores to find what you're looking for? They would prolly need to set up a separate server just for this function :/
