General Undo feature

Hi fellow residents,

I have been thinking about this for quite a while. First off, I'm not a builder nor usually create much content. Most of my time I spend socialising and getting new players accustomed to the mechanics of SL.

During my extensive contact with newbies, I often come across this scenario:
1. Newbie gets box with stuff
2. Newbie puts box on head
3. Newbie asks "how do I undo this"

Seeing how many of us still accidentally end up with box or shopping bag heads, I was thinking how handy a quick "Last Action Undo" feature would be - meaning, the box disappears and your original hair pops back into place. If this could be expanded to any kind of change we make, like putting on a different shape or skin (a common newbie action) or putting out a prim and not knowing how to clean it up again, al the better. The uses are endless and all desirable.

I think this is badly missing and would help new players in particular, but also some older ones having a blonde moment....

I can't count the number of times I've been entering an object position into the edit window manually, and accidentally typoed, sending my object hundreds of meters away. This'd help with that.

Oddly enough we do have an undo feature. Move an object and either Edit -> Undo or Ctrl + z. It moves back.

What's not good, is that this funtion is HORRIBLY unreliable.

What I have noticed is that 'Undo' only works if the item you want to undo changes to is still selected, and hasn't become de-selected since the change. Do anything that de-selects the items, or throw the item beyond the range at which you can control it, and no more easy Undo.

I would agree that a generic and reliable Undo feature would be a godsend!

Actually, Ceera, that's not quite true. Each object seems to keep its own undo information, and I've successfully done an Undo on an object after logging out and logging back in. Then again, sometimes Undo completely fails immediately after the action I want to Undo. It's unreliable.

Yeah. Unrealiable and a general annoyance actually. If it worked sometimes, but always durring those conditions, then it'd actually be useful.

So how would I go about putting it up for voting? I've never done this and even after looking at the page, I'm not sure how to do it.
