I'm sure we've all done it at some point or another. Dropped an object onto a plot of land that we suddenly found had no visible place to grab it by. With some objects, there are ways to grab them. But sometimes we totally lose stuff - sometimes no-copy stuff - on land that doesn't have an autoreturn function.
So I'm wondering if there would be a way to retrieve objects by clicking on it in the inventory instead. Like how you detach something you are wearing from there. Anything you have dropped could be in, say, italics to distinguish from dropped objects, and there would be a retrieve option when you right-click. If you have more than one of them placed, it could give you a list of locations you have them placed at, so you don't have to take them all at once.
For no-copy objects this is especially useful - so when you place it, rather than disappearing from your inventory list, it italicizes to let you know it is placed, but if you try to place it again it either doesn't let you, or moved it with a dialog box saying so.
If it becomes easier for people to pick up after themselves, it might make it easier on land owners and object owners alike, and could help cut down on the litter problem.
Any refining or additions to this suggestion are well appreciated. ^^

*blinks* Okay I just clicked to look back through all the posts I've ever made, and apparently asked something similar months ago - but for a different reason. *facepalms* Double posting a topic is bad enough when it's NOT you who made the first post...
