Let's go back and fix what we had before jumping into this nonsense

This latest version is a complete bust. Instead of relieving problems, problems have increased. I've never crashed this often or with this much severity (i.e. the whole computer freezes). New rendering techniques don't seem to be having any effect on speeding up the process. Crowded areas are ripe for crashing. Typing now leaves out letters if there's lag.

What's up with this Lindens? This is BS.

If your computer is freezing it's probably...
A) your video drivers are out of date or badly installed (did you uninstall the previous version of the drivers before you installed the current version?)
B) your hardware is overheating (try lower video settings. get more cooling on the hot bits of your computer (memory, vid card, cpu, etc))
C) your hardware is defective (replace)

client crashes could be caused by the above list as well. Until you sort out what is causing the system to freeze there is little that can be done.

About a year ago I had a mediocre graphics card, but nevertheless I could run with local lighting switched on, and generally have a draw distance of 256m.

Since then, with every upgrade things seem to have got worse. With 1.6 I suffer from constant freezes, some of which I can correct with a relog, some of which necessitate a complete reboot. And, now with an Nvidia 6800GT card, I find that even with my draw distance set to 64m and local lighting turned off, I suffer from periods of extreme lag, where my frame rate drops to 0.5 or below.

There is very little pleasure in playing sl now, and I do wish that before implementing new features, some time could be spent on getting the old ones to work properly.

Strife,

There are threads in which many people have complained about the constant freezing. Some are suffering so badly that they are finding sl completely unplayable.

I am suffering as well, and as far as your checklist goes:-

A. No, they are not, and yes, they were installed correctly.

B. No, my hardware is not overheating - I monitor the temperature in five different places.

C. Bollocks.

Oh come now. I now freeze every 30 seconds in SL. Every other game and application in existence is just fine. I have current drivers. My system is not overheating. There is nothing defective about my hardware. I know what I'm doing.

Nothing has changed on my system with the exception of loading the 1.6 client.

I wish people (including Lindens) would stop perpetuating this bullshit about it being something at our end thats changed. It's fucking obvious where the problem lies.

Yes, this sucks. I'm surprised there's only been one detracted on this thread so far. Elsewhere people are jumping all over me for claiming it's messed up.

I blame my rare few crashes since the update on my Inventory, seen as it ONLY happens when I open my inventory...

My list is only for when the computer freezes and doesn't come out of the freeze; where a reboot is the only option (via the power switch). This would be a situation that not even pressing 'caps lock' on the keyboard would light up the 'caps lock' LED.

My list does not address: lag, client hanging, or client crashes.

So before you chew me out by giving examples of how it's not the case. Make sure your situation fits the criteria first.

21st here :D My bro is the 25th, we are a winter baby family :)

I tried playing music a few times, I failed :( Being left handed does NOT help :(

Well thats my story anyways :(

and Strife, I have also experienced complete PC freezes, but only when i have 56793487548 different things running and SL, so I guess, thats my fault :o

I think it would be too much of a coincidence that hardware or software started to work improperly the same time the client was upgraded.

No, the cause is 1.6. Unfortunately, it's unlikely they are going to roll back.

I suggest everyone try

a) upgrade their service pack
b) their video card driver
c) try posting in technical issues and hope that Catherine Omega replies (she's a guru)
