Have gesture commands that talk on different channels?

How about the ability to have the talk portion of gestures (where it will say somthing out loud when you input a /command) talk on object channels.
This way, you can do /commands that don't say anything out loud, but trigger script things to happen, because the gesture talked on an object channel that an attachment could be listening on.
This would help people be able to do stuff with their scripts discretely without interrupting a conversation and without having to script in somting that takes over your controls.
Anyone like this idea?

I think a selectable channel popup would be cool, much like the say and shout have a channel button.

You type what you need to, then hit the channel button, and a menu popsup with a list of channels to say the msg on.

I don't see any way to make a list of 2^31 channels appear on screen. ;) Maybe right-clicking on Say/Shout can bring up a channel number input box?

I really like this idea.

heh if all you want is to say stuff on different channels, i have a little box that will shout whatever you say on whatever channel you want. just drop a notecard on it with the channel and phrase :-)

and to add my two cents, yeah it would be sweet if we could use gestures to yell stuff on other channels.

edit- i can see myself rightclicking and changing the channel and forgetting about it all about it, and then trying to talk to someone. hah. hmm if this or something like it gets implemented, it might be nice to be able to listen to other channels as well(maybe a maximum number like say 7), without having a scripted intrepreter.

I just need to make sure we're on the right track with eachother here Nada.

I'm a little mixed up here. You say "will shout whatever you say" but then add "drop a notecard ... with the channel and phrase. Assuming the box repeats what I say out loud, this doesn't follow my suggestion, because my suggestion would make it so I don't have to talk out loud. Assuming the box repeats whatever phrase is on the notecard, that gets tedious if I want multiple commands.

Which brings up the issue of interfering with other peoples' scripts. So, to make the issue more difficult to program, we should have it so if we talk or hear on object channels, we only talk to, or hear from, objects which are owned by the talker/listener. That's the only way to keep security and stop sabotage of scripts which rely on communication between eachother.

Kay? :D

oops. i should of re-read my post as usual. Much confusion could be diverted, and i would look less silly.

so, to clarify. The box does not repeat what you say. It will read a line off a note card and then shout it the commands on the specified channel. I can set it up so it allows you to say as many commands on as many channels as you like, you just have to tell me what you want.

actually i generally think being able to listen on any channel other than 0 is a bad idea. it takes away one more item that i could sell heh.

I think the number of channels should be very limited - between 20 and 100.

And I want / commands gal darn it!

CODE
/20 hello
Should send the message hello to channel 20 and only works for channels 1 to 99.
CODE
/shout hello
should shout hello, etc. None of this silly pop up nonsense.

/whisper20
/20
/shout20
Does the three respective things to channel 20.
/whisper
Should let us whisper out loud on channel 0. (Shout can be done by holding Ctrl as you press enter)

Seems good to me.

along these lines, I would like a gesture event, that is triggered by llTrackGesture(string gesture) or something along these lines.

I was going to ask for that too.
Just put a channel box in the gesture window to indicate whatever channel you want the message sent on.

It would be GREAT. I made a " kiss blower", a script you put in a hand attachment that blow a little heart particle toward an avatar ; I wanted to make a blowkiss gesture that would trigger the script so you could use it conveniently with a word trigger or key or whatever the user like. But since gestures talk on the 0 channel I cant :(
So to blow a kiss I have to trigger it myself with a "/1234 blowkiss" ; the script starts the animation itself (and so it need to handle permission). It's less convenient to use, and the script is more complex ; plus the user can't use an alternate blowkiss animation since it's hardcode in the script (making it customisable would of course add to the complexity).

So pleeeeeease ! Make gestures able to talk on channels !

It's old, but last time I checked in game gestures still couldn't do it (maybe something eluded me) ; so it's still valid to ask for it, isn't it?

Well, I dont have the game in front of me right now (is why I'm browsing forums...), but try:

- edit a gesture
- click "chat" and do "add"
- type /1234 blowkiss into the chat bit and hit return (hitting return is important :-/
- click "save"

if you're talking about making an actual official Gesture like the ones listed in your inventory, can't you make the chat they say something like "/3 blowkiss"? if it says "/3 blowkiss" on channel 0 it's the same as if you typed "/3 blowkiss" yourself and should only chat on channel 3 right?
