Having Space and other planets in SL would be great u can fly around in outerspace doing wat u want. it would add new Role Playing, new ideas, new features, more oppertunites. fly around space in a ship u made and land on planets or space stations in outer space.
be a jedi traveling to planets, or a merc looking for bounty, or just an explorer
or join a group dat flys in space and fights other groups in space. people who like to fly in SL dont get alot of space to fly at but if Outerspace was added they got alot more room.

just wondered if dis was a good idea

I have been about 500,000m up, not a lot to do up there. The sun, moon, and sky put do some interesting things and your Avatar goes through some violent contortions, but thats about it. It takes a long time too, its boring and lonely up there mostly.

Darwin was the first to venture to outer space, at least publicly.

Rathe documented his trip to 1,000,000m up about a year ago. You might find his story in the archives here somewhere.

I had to look again for myself. I was wrong, Rathe went to over 10,000,000m. Here is the link: /120/8c/5367/1.html

I think that LL once stated that it was technically possible to put a sim above or below another one, but it would break a lot of stuff, since the rest of SL is built on the assumption that sims are concatenated on a 2D plane, that they will have a terrain, that people wont be able to go under it etc.

technically you can build a space station in SL as it is now. Visitors would need teleport, vehicle, or body attachment flight modules to get there though and the sim sun would have to be turned off just to get the space feel. I'd build a nice one but I can't afford land at the present time with the current prices there going for. Plus a 512 landless plot probably wouldn't be enough for a decent station anyway.

Prims can only go up to 768 meters, and then the havok physics engine shuts off, basically.

Extreme heights also tend to make the avatars go crazy (as per Darwin's experience).
