To go with the moving gray chat background coming in the next version, how about
making the whole SL window into an oval, and making colored rectangles eminate from the mini-map, and maybe making the edit window look like it's on a curvy billowy surface that's flapping in the wind? Could we get the chat and menu text all changed to Commercial Script? I think the inventory text would be good arranged vertically, all caps, Commercial Script, from bottom to top would be nice too.
And the chat text foreground color could be changed to a shade of gray and be outlined in a different shade of gray with a shadow that's also gray, and maybe instead of being horizonal or vertical it could be diagonal starting with one character in one corner spread out as it goes to the center of the oval program window?

The changes you suggest do all fit quite well with the grey filter sliding up and down obscuring and distorting the objects and textures people have worked so hard to make, but I think maybe pink and lime green, sorta like Torley's clothes, would be be a better color theme.
