We really need to be able to apply textures to the land we own. All that sand is depressing.

They've said in the Hotline forum that they're working on it. It will take a rework of how land textures are stored, as currently there are only 4 per sim, used consistently at 4 altitude ranges. I think the "new graphics engine" was invoked as being relevant to this, but I'm not sure.

I still dread the textures certain 'members' of the community will use for their land.

Oh goody, per plot texturing. I can't wait for SL to become even more of an incoherent mishmash of random crap!

It will get rid of the spinning for sale signs, the plot itself will be textured "for sale".

I would be happy with a choice of four maybe. Make it like the tree create tool, limited to Linden design, and purely a ground texture.

We do have a choice though, before you buy the land. If you buy snow or sand and get tired of it, move.

Maybe some sort of 'programmatic' texturing... you know, specify what sort of terrain your land is supposed to be, and it textures it for you, depending on the contours of the land and whatnot. If it was smart enough, it might even be able to avoid nasty seams between different players' plots. :)

I'd like to use this to implement scripted seasons. But I agree, it will look strange if my land has snow and my neighbor has tropical stuff.

Not a lot stranger than some of the builds I've seen, though. And themed sims could use this to good advantage, I think.

If people are concerned about what kind of textures might get used for land, why not just allow using textures only from a set of Linden-supplied land textures? I'd be happy to use just the textures the Lindens have created for land in all the various sims. But please let me turn all that ugly sand into grass, groundcover, or what have you.

Even with Linden supplied textures, they would still mismatch horribly.
