I propose a new feature called llDetectedClick which would return a list. The list will have the face/side number clicked, as well as the X and Y that was clicked. This would allow us to have multiple touch "hot spots". You could have a 1 prim object with "click here to do this, there to do that" functionality. It would allow us to do non "auto start" flash as well as to be able to detect clicks in a way that would allow us to put a "html browser" on a prim.

I believe there is a script in the library that does this for simple shapes.
I have not tried it yet, but I am about to try and make a single prim vendor with buttons.

It's currently not possible to detect that at all, all you can really do is say which side of an object an avatar is standing on So I'd definitely be all for this new function, even an llDetectedFace() (to get the side that was touched) would be a big improvement as you can use some clever squashing to make an interface from a single cube.

One could, in theory, enter Mouselook, get the avatar's camera setting when they touch a prim, do some fancy math, and see where they have touched.
This is how some blackboards in SL work to track down where inside the prim something was clicked, and place an arrow there.
It's a bit rough, but works.
