Use map textures when above 400m

Have an option that draws the map textures at “average sim ground height” when you are over 400m

1) Each sim would use two tris and one texture.
2) I realize these textures would not be subject to draw distance.
3) There would also be gaps where sims change height, however these would not be very noticeable.

Make it "over 768m" or "when the highest ground is outside draw distance". I fly around with draw distance at 512 quite a bit, to get an overview of the land including current builds, and there's places on the map where ground height is over 300m...

With that change this is a great idea. It would be like flying over the world map.

So I can finally be the first the fly around the world without rest! :D

The only problem I see with this is how slow map textures are to change, and they would be particularly lo-res anyway. Wouldn't clouds get in the way too?

At 3/4 of a kilometer up? It'd just be a hint of where you are... but a really cool one.

Map Textures?

Perhaps they could pull them from the same database they populate the Web Map from?

There's three different "world maps", the one in-game, the one on secondlife.com, and the one on slurl.com. I think they all start out as the same database, but the slurl one (at least) seems to be quite out of date even by comparison with the in-game map. I would hope that whatever database they pulled something like this from would be the most up-to-date one.

:confused:Argent? I said "Web Map", not "World Map".

:oActually, however, I was thinking of the one that used to be on the main welcome page. Does this one and the SLURL map agree or disagree with one-another?

:eek:Eek!

Actually, regarding the freshness of the maps, I`m not at all surprised, from Linden comments I`ve read in the past.

So would I! No disagreement there!

I know. They're all derives from the same maps, so it's a distinction without a difference, except for the age of the map...
