I like the idea of a snap-to-grid, but it's way too large. I'd like some additional functionality in the 3-D builder that allows easier orthoganality and prim-edge matching.
examples of how I might use it:
I'd like to be able to have a checkbox that allows things like rotation to snap to every 5 degrees.
I'd like to be able to set my grid to a much denser level, and snap to an accuracy of 0.01m (1 cm).
I'd like to be able prim-edge match, like, say I want to hang a poster on a wall, or slide two pieces together to link them perfectly. I want to be able to have a checkbox on edit to allow me move the one prim and have it snap in place when it touches the other prim.
(i try to work around this problem using the paint-by-numbers method, but I also work in detailed objects and calculating where the edges are on two objects out to 1/1000 precision is annoying and time-consuming.
I'd like to have a feature that will auto-correct objects that are 1/1000 or 2/1000 away from orthoganal... I'm tired of seeing prims of mine with rotations like: X - 359.999 Y - 89.999 Z - 0.001

I use a grid size of 0.125 for most things. It's the "magic" grid increment in that it locks to the whole number meter positions, yet allows for small divisions between them without succumbing to floating point errors.
I'll drop to 0.063, but that does involve a small bit of rounding. I'd like to see more digits in that field.
0.01 should be doable, Hiro. Tools -> Grid Options... (I think that's what it's called.)
Adding another field in there for rotaion accuracy would be nice.
When working with objects that aren't built to a set grid value, or an unknown one, I'll often use the rez-here aproach to get things to be flush. Like having two walls, I'll take one, the place it by dragging it to the edge of the other. Adjust it's position in the other two axes.
There are also so little-used tools in the Create mode of the edit window, two checkboxes just below the rows of primitive icons. Try playing with those if you haven't. Can make some neat effects with them.
EDIT: And I'm ALL in favor of snap-to... I just know how difficult that would be to program.
