Alternate Login location

Considering that I cannot login right now (nor most of the previous 12 hours) and have stared at numerous "connecting to region" screens of death for most of that period, I want to suggest the followng feature addition.

Currently we can set login locations to last position or home.

It seems rather incongruous to me that we cannot login to the Welcome Area - any of them....Ahern, Waterhead(?) or Plum/Lime(?) - - user selectable via radio button.

Why not?

My impetus for suggesting this is so that I, as a consumer, can eliminate the possibility that my last location being my home sim, I have no option to login in anywhere else - if the region/sim is down and handoffs are also on the fritz.

This seems, on its surface, and not knowing anything about the underlying code, to be a relatively easy feature to implement and I can't honestly see any real disadvantages. Right now, two welcome areas are essentially sitting doing nothing....possibly even "hogging" a Class III server/cpu.

The WA's are already set up.. Why aren't all three in use right now?

Expanding on this idea, why can't a map of telehubs pop up and let us choose one to login?

Curiously, I failed to log-in at home, so ticked the 'previous location' box and tried again. I didn't expect much because I was sitting at home when I crashed. However, despite the log-in screen showing me at my home, I was logged into someplace strange that I didn't recognize.

click on a SL hyperlink, like the one to my shop and you will log in at the telehub closest to that location.

or in your browser enter secondlife://<simname>/x/y where sim name is the sim you want to go to and x and y are the coordinates (0-256).

so for example... secondlife://alviso/180/40 pasted into your browser would take you to the telehub closest to my shop with the beacon at my shop.

to log in it dosnt really matter which you choose (assuming the sim is up and the telehub sim is up).

hope that helps,

jester

I'd love to be able to log in directly to any of my properties.

For those of us running SL under Linux, is there a command-line equivalent of this?
