Do you know how hard it is searching for "object key" information when you can't use "KEY"?!?!?!

The way searching works with vBulletin, I believe it actually creates a searchable index of all the words four letters and over. Reducing that to three puts an extra strain on processing time and storage, although maybe the server has enough juice to handle this. Some other good ones:

xml rpc (for posts that don't use xml-rpc)
php script

This is not their forum software, so they can't make direct changes to it like that, I don't imagine. Why not just ask what you need to know about object keys?

As a co-owner of 3 vBulletin forum licenses, I know a little about this.

The limit is to save database space. Reducing the limit to 3 blows the search index table up dramatically.

But what you can do, is to get an administrator of the forum to add certain 2- and 3-letter words to the index manually, so these words ARE indexed.

Naturally, these words should be related to the subject at hand, SL. It wouldn't take too long for veterans in here to compile a list of short words and abbreviations that are used in SL. The forum administrator can just paste the list into a form in admin control panel, and from then on, those words will be indexed. The administrator can also choose to reindex all earlier posts, but that is a server intensive process that forum admins usually don't like to perform if they don't have to.

We use this technique all the time in our forums, making sure words specific to the topic ARE indexed.

Yeah, that's what I'd do. I can't believe they don't do it already.

aim, bmp, c, c++, car, cpu, ctd, dat, dll, exe, gpu, icq, ini, irc, key, lag, log, lsl, m3u, mp3, msn, ogg, php, pls, ram, rpc, vpu, xml... there really aren't a lot of possible acronyms someone could want to search for. Some of these are already pretty unlikely.

It'd also be nice if we had the "forum jump" dropdown menu back on the front forum page, but it's been MIA for about a year and I have a sneaking suspicion it's probably not coming back.
