Make life easier on Liaisons!

A couple of days ago, one of the Liaisons, upon seeing the sheer number of events in the upcoming hour (seven, as I recall), ended up saying something like "There's a whole lotta stuff happening, check your event calendar!" And nearly all of them are down to "We have five parties, two adult events, and eighteen casinos opening this hour. Details in Events!"

There's so much going on now that the hourly reminders are getting silly. We really need an automated one. The Liaisons are trying valiantly, but the system that worked so well for five events a night is breaking badly with thirty.

One way to do this would be to add an 'Alert me!' checkbox column under Events. Fifteen minutes before a checked event, the user should get a message. It would be IDEAL if that could be sent via instant message, so that it pops into email if they're offline and forgot.

I realize that offering IM support would probably move the implementation into the server instead of the client, and might require too much other reworking, but it would be nice. I also realize that if you implement it in the client, you may be saving more state there than you want. There is, however, a definite problem here, and I think it's worth some attention.

It'll be a shame to lose the human touch, but we don't really have that anymore anyway... the announcements are so generic that we might as well have the Liaisons saying 'Bong!'. :-)

I agree, there have been many suggestions about this.

The anouncements are becoming rediculous, and I always think "How do those people who's event didn't get named going to feel?", if you have some generic "Check your events!" then an hour later you have "Bobby Bobersons great great party that rocks and all others suck!", I'd be pissed off.

I dont even know why we have announcements anymore. They served a purpose back when it was hard to get anyone at your event. Now its just silly.

If they actually said 'bong' I would go to more events.....

They should run it out of a cron job so liaisons don't have to bother with it. As Trimming says, receiving them should be optional. The announcement should give a scrollable list of events. Clicking on an event would bring up the Find->Events dialogue and highlight the event.

An auto-announce feature is being planned for the next release. Design still under development, so keep those ideas coming!

if y'all are actually working on this, i really like the idea of expanding the categories a bit and giving us checkboxes to indicate which types of announcements we want to see.
