I love local lighting. I hate to turn it off. Thankfully, builders are starting to switch to Fullbright instead of Light where possible.
Two feature requests:
1. The "Media Player" in the Linden Inventory Library uses Light for its buttons, should use Fullbright. Not sure what other Library items might also need updating.
2. Do *something* visible to "Light" objects even when "Local Lighting" is disabled. Maybe a (hopefully inexpensive) halo or something. This will make Lights still a little bit special, and help builders see that there is a difference. Laptop screens should be Fullbright, streetlamps should be Light.
3. (Radical) Remove "Light" from the editor window. Like 100% transparency, and floating text, it remains accessible only from scripts. Consider it.
I'll be optimistic and believe that computers and graphics cards just keep getting better (or at least last year's top-of-the-line becomes affordable), and that software just keeps getting better (no, really!) and soon we'll all want to run with all the graphics whizbangery turned on.
Maybe I'll add a proposition for this if I find the right pitch...
