I'd love to have a checkbox to keep the audio stream url hidden in land info. I sometimes use shoutcast server to stream environmental sounds or music onto my land. Lately I have people connected to my server for an hour or two at a time, which is great. I'm flattered. But they're not on my land and I only allow ten connects on my server. If someone decides to borrow my stream URL and has a party, no audio for me on my land. People are welcome to ask and I might let them now and then, but I'd like to have it so the only way they could find out the url is to ask me first.

Valid point Chip but I have a counter argument. I'm actually slightly concerned about the streaming URL. I am aware you can disable streaming support, but someone can easily setup a stream that's sole purpose is to gather and collect the IP addresses of those that are listening. Normally this information isn't available in SL, but once someone flies onto your land and connects to your stream you can log that information and with the help of a little email or xml-rpc you can associate it with the last user to come onto your land. Therefore I think the streaming URLs should be clearly spelled out in plain text for you to decide if you really do want to connect to that stream or not, to establish some sort of trust and accountability without having to completely disable the feature.

Interesting points Rathe. Hadn't thought of that angle before. That said, anyone who runs their own shoutcast server is already exposing their IP to everyone so fair is fair eh?

small problem: you can find out the remote host and port of every active connection by running netstat. (netstat -p if I recall, my windows box is hosed right now.)

True Huns but I don't think that people who borrow audio URL's do it with any kind of malicious intent. They just don't stop to think it might be the parcel owners own server and have very limited connections. If it was hidden I don't think anyone would go to the trouble of trying to get it anyway.

Here's another consideration: I bought a CD specifically for my land, which I condensed in to a single static mp3 file hosted on my own website. Now since I'm just streaming it across my own land the legal implication is fairly benign, but if everyone looks in to the audio URL then downloads that mp3, and my hosting provider goes "hmmm" I might be in a spot of trouble.

I agree - I stream music as well, and would not want my URL used on someone else's land. Please mke the URL visible only to the land owner.

From: someone Originally posted by Eddy Stryker I'm just streaming it across my own land the legal implication is fairly benign, but if everyone looks in to the audio URL then downloads that mp3, and my hosting provider goes "hmmm" I might be in a spot of trouble. This is how I feel about it too Eddy. I figure with only ten connections, the shoutcast server private (not visible at shoutcast.com) and only people who come to my land able to hear it, I don't see it as being any different than having ten people over at my real house hearing whatever is on my stereo.
