Okay, I know I'll get a ton of gripeback on this but hear me out.
I'd like to be able to cache a static version of a parcel, say, a club or home, so that I don't have to rez all of it each time I log in or TP over. The sim would update me to any new things, but the parcel would operate faster on my machine because I already have most of the non-dynamic things like fixed walls and textures.
This make sense to anyone?

Yeah, SL does already cache content. But (and maybe this is what you're getting at Burke) it seems to cache and uncache eveything equally. What would be cool is if you could tell it to store a snapshot of a particular parcel (like your home) seperate from the normal caching mechanism so it never gets unloaded when you fly around. I've wondered if some form of static mechanism wouldn't be useful though. If developers could lock down a region and mark it as static, you could preload everything in that region before entering, instead of bumping into walls before various bits (especially textures) get downloaded. I know that SL is all about the live experience, as opposed to canned content like Doom and EQ. But dense places like Nova Albion or Neverland might benefit from a mixed approach. Hope this isn't a hijack, it's just something I've been thinking about and not a real feature suggestion
