I know this has been said before but this is really limiting my enjoyment of SL. I want a way to lock the camera position and zoom. It is very annoying to position the camera so I can see the place where I want to put my prim only to have the view messed up and to have to take three times as long to be able to position the prim. It is OK to have automatic camera mode when I want it on like when walking or flying, but I want the option to turn it off and position the camera where I want, and have it stay there till I change my mind, even if I move my AV. This would really help with building, and has a cool impact on things such as simple movies, parties, etc. I know I've only had an account for a few days, but this camera control is making me want to walk away from SL.

Push and hold Alt.
Click prim.
Camera focuses on prim.
Keep holding alt.
Move with arrows or WASD and mouse wheel.
Camera moves. You don't.
Keep Alt Down.

However, if I click on a new prim the camera moves again.. I want the option to tell it to not move automatically while that option is checked. For example, I want to position the camera at the edge of my land and leave it there while I'm building the front of my house, even while I'm selecting different prims or even walking around the building.

Hold Alt.
Click on Prim.
Let go of Alt.
Build.
If you wish to move the camera in ANY fashion, push and hold Alt again.

Also, you can use control and shift in conjunction with alt to rotate and pan... Hardly anyone knows about that one... And if you sit down first, you can use the keyboard keys, and just move your chair around if you want to move your av without moving the camera.

First of all I know how to move the camera it is not unlike many other CAD programs. The alt trick helps with most of my desire, but is still doesn't prevent the camera from moving all the time which is what I'm trying to get at. For example, if you place two prims a bit apart and select one prim while holding down alt and then use alt and ctrl as needed to move the camera FOV you can then select the other prim without moving the camera. However, if you select the prim and use the pie thing to select edit the camera FOV will move.
What I want is a little option on the focus pane, ctrl-1, that turns off all automatic camera movements.

Dunno if this is on topic or not.
There is a little remote control race track next to my build ib Bisque.
It has a bench of chairs there. When u sit suddenly your camera is fixed on the race track from an elevated position. so you can see whole track as you race. Camera only moves when u standup again.
How did they do this ?
Maybe this camera lock could be used when building

Good point, Davo. What you want is llSetCameraAtOffset and llSetCameraEyeOffset. They can be set on an object and will reposition your camera when you sit or use it. Maybe Anu can make himself a building chair.

Just leave it in edit mode while you're going from one object to another...
I, too, am annoyed by the way the camera shifts when you go in & out of edit mode, though.

From: Anu Statosky I wonder if the lindens will notice all these old threads? They've noticed, Anu. It's been fixed in the code and will appear in a release before long, allegedly. This fix is going to be pretty hard for the LL fanboys to take after methodically dismissing everyone's complaints about it for months and years. My sympathies ... NOT.
