I have over 48,000 objects.. and when i search something, my whole game goes into a lag hell due to the many object items i have!

i wish there was a "Stop Search" button, where it will stop searching!
Just makes life a little easier for the people who have alot of junk, to stop from searching i usually just log out :( and it takes forever.

Not sure if it has mentioned before im too lazy to search, ill just mention it again then :)

OMG!

I am NOT entirely to blame for the asshat server being borked all the time! SEE! SEE PEOPLE!

I have less items that Wuv now! I DO!

I agree tho, please make a stop button, I was talking with Torley about the idea of an inventory bank!

While going thru my inventory yesterday I got rid of over 2000 items by just deleting landmarks that come with purchases, it's insane!

A stop button would also be really useful to stop folders you closed after a search from *GASP!* reopening.

well the reason i have so much objects is.. that i did not know you could copy a prim, by just pressing "Shift" and move it.. lol so i used to *take* it to inventory then lay it back.. LOL
was like 1 year without knowing it lol

but i deleted all the "Objects" in my inventory and i still have alot of stuff..
i used to be in a designer group lol where we traded items for other items.. lol and it was around 20 designers so i got alot of stuff lol

There's also CTRL + D to Duplicate (shortcut for Edit -> Duplicate).

Either a STOP button, or the better thing would be...

all your inventory loads in a few seconds.
BANG!

I have about 7,000 items at current count and it takes 3 freakin' minutes after I start streaming for it to complete.

Clearly we can do better! :)

BTW, by "lag hell" Wuv, do you mean a lot of packet loss? Like when you press Ctrl-Shift-1 and watch the stats when you load inventory, do you see Packet Loss and/or Ping User climb up a lot?

Why does it take so long anyway? A database query can handle hundreds of thousands, millions of items quite speedily, so long as the result is compressed rather than sent as a big-ass string then you can also receive it fairly quickly too (even so, it's only the results of a single query it needs to return, such as folder X or search-string Y).

How is the asset server organised, is everything on one machine or are there several machines with one controlling machine passing requests onto the machine your stuff is handled by?

Well, there are two bars, the other is bandwith usage.
I'd suggest hitting CTRL+SHIFT+1 and taking a look in there to figure out what the lag is.

Are the searches client-side then? It sounds like the inventory is being SENT to the client and it's performing the search, my inventory is small and I rarely search it so I don't notice much slow down.

I want a way to search only one folder in inventory. I know whatever it is I'm looking for is in my Object folder or just in my Hair folder, it does not need to search every other folder for it too. Would this speed things up at all?

Topping 28k items in inventory today, it really is time to do a clean up, but that's going to involve hours of rezzing things called "object" to see what they are. :(

I'd love a Global Stop Button.
I'd love the ability to search ONLY a category(s) or folder(s).

Could we not have search defining functions as we do here in the forums?

Date Options (to - from, before, after)
Made By Options
Group Owned

Would Boolean search functions be possible?

Mind Reading, search as I think, not as I type? OK that might be a bit much hehehe.

(Figure this way you can throw out the last "ask" and might get the others, maybe, it could happen.) /Judy Tenuta voice :p

I may be missing something here, but I generally stop extended searches by clicking the inventory window closed...

Admitedly I only have about 12,000 items, and it rarely takes more than 20 seconds to search that lot.

Plus I generally open inventory and hit a key when I log in, then it loads while I deal with IMs
