Hey there all i'm new to sl i have been in the game for about 3 weeks now, i lvoe it so far but i was thinkign about a in one of the upcoming updates why not allow people the have a nick for there adv ?

liek it would diplay there nick name and not there realname , i cant see why it would be a prob when u click on teh adv and do profile you can still see what there sl name is you jsut wont see it above there heads you could and would be able to see there nick name

not sure if that sound right or unstandiable to any one i hate typeing perfur useing voice

not sure if i have put this in teh right palce or if the makes of the game will even read it but i can hope

I'm sorry. Your English is so mangled I was able to extract the following information:

You want to be able to change your display name as per MSN IM.

And "adv" is "ADVanced."

"Av" is "AVatar." Avatar does not contain the letter "d."

The idea has been discussed and it apparently is a no-no. Some non-unque problems or something.

Part of the problem with something like that is that it would create even more anonymity in SL. Most people don't view profiles on every single av they see, and SL already has a griefer problem. So, not only can griefers come and go as they do now, they can wear any name they want (say, the name of a prominent SLer), and cause even more chaos.

It's an interesting idea, for sure, but with the way SL works, I don't think it would really fit.

If you want some customization to your displayed name, you can always use different group tags.

If the "nick" was displayed in a way that it was obviously a nickname (say, it shows in white instead of gold) it wouldn't be deceptive, and the client and scripts should still see the real name (for example, in hovertext or llDetectedName).

Just create an object to wear with hovering text inside if you want to display a nickname, no group to join or create, and you get your nick name. Personally, I would not want to be required to create yet another name for my avatar. I did that when I signed up. My avatar name is my nickname...do you think Natasha is my real name? Certainly not!

And if you prefer using only voice how in the world do you get along in SL when it's all chat based?
