Suggestions for new land tools.

Being able to build just about anything we want is a very cool feature. Only limitation is the ammount of prims we can use. But one thing that we cannot do is build underground. I would suggest a tunneling tool that we could use to build underground. With this tool neighbors could build interconnecting tunnels, subways, mazes, or anything else that could be built underground. So what do you say Lindens?

Also on a side note:

1. Water should act like water
2. When building underwater there should be a tool to be able to specify air or water.

The problem with building or tunneling underground is... The ground is just a thin shell. There's nothing below it but an endless drop. Anything that puts an avatar below the skin of the ground is a bug, and shall remain so because of the nasty problems it causes in physics, among other things.

Yeah, it would be great, but that's not how the system is designed. Sorry.

Air or water? What did you mean by that? View distance changes?

yeah, unfortunately the land isn't set up to allow for tunneling.. i remember thinking it would be awesome as well, so you're not alone there.. it's just not currently doable.

Tiger, i think what Aserath means is for inside of buildings for an example. to be able to create an enclosed structure that acts like an enclosed bulding should act when underwater. for instance, if you created a hollow sphere underwater you would be able to select either "water permeates" or "water folloows physics".

Aserath, is that right? ..if so, i agree. that would definitely be a welcome feature.

tunneling has always been a dream in SL but it would require a major revamping on the whole surface of SL since they use .raw maps right now to represent height, .raw files have no way to show nothingness, only really low height, the whole landscape would have to be moved into a dynamic mesh situation and well...:P maybe SL 2.0? as for the air underwater thing...that would be nifty, might be a little funky because it would used the bounding boxes of object to define area but I'd like to see it :)

The only way I can see that working is a new material type on prims. Then you make a big phantom cube in the area you want to be "air" (you think that's air you're not breathing?) and set it to the new material type. Then anyone with a viewpoint inside that cube sees air.

Personally, I like the "dimness" of interiors under water... :)

Know how he said water should act like water? Yeah, he wants to be able to 'move' water out of enclosed spaces, like, say, an underwater base he creates. Or somesuch.

Personally, I'd like to see water cause physics objects to float. I hate that my avatar just sinks like a rock in water. The avs should switch to a swimming animation when underwater, and a "treading water" animation when on the surface. They should also float when at the surface, rather than have to be held there by flying.

I'd also like to see an "air" and "water" object material, to supplement the other materials (wood, metal, light...). This would allow us to make dry spaces underwater (so, for example, I can build an underwater lab and make windows to see the fish outside)

As it is now, the only way to make my "secret lab" and have it have air inside would be to actually build it up near the 512m mark and have a teleporter shove me up there through some sort of airlock system.

Hmm... I think I'll experiment with that tonight.
