It would be cool if there was a flag where you could buy an item, but instead of paying the owner, you pay the creator.

I've proposed umpteen variants on this. Basically, we need to be able to set a "royalty" value as well as a "sale" value.

Next owner may: [] Modify, [] Copy, []Transfer, []Sell, []Sell copy.
Royalty on sales: [] L$______, _____%.

The royalty values would be minimums, so if you sell something with royalty L$100, 25% you can sell it for L$100 and the creator gets it all, L$400 and the creator gets L$100, or L$1000 and the creator gets L$250.

Think about the econmic engine THAT would generate, if you can say "You like this plane, sure, I can sell you a copy for L$400". Then put it in a box, and Bob's your uncle.

Details:

The buyer needs to know that you're a reseller, but not what the commission is... and they need to be told that the commission may be substantial.

The creator needs to know how much you sold it for, but not necessarily who you sold it to.

Interactions between permissions are interesting. You could have something you could sell copies of OR give as a gift, for example. It's up to the creator, and LL shouldn't impose limits on what you can do with these without a very good reason.

It should be reasonable to set something no copy/no trans/sell original or sell copy, since that retains the right of first sale, but I'm less sure about this.

Yeah, I guess they're nervous about touching the money code.

Too bad, it would be cool.
