Unlike Light which gives off light into the world (if you have local lights on anyway) illuminant material should NOT light up other objects, but like current light objects, the object its self will "glow" at full intensity. An real world example is the light from a digital clock, unless it is extremely dark in the room, the light from the numbers dose not noticeably light up the room, yet you clearly see the clock. The idea is that this illuminant material might be used in venders, insides of homes and buildings that should look as if it has lights, and most other places where excessive lights are used today. http://secondlife.com/vote/get_feature.php?get_id=68

Yes please - a self-lit but non-emissive texture setting, or a prim setting, would be wonderful.

From: Jillian Callahan Yes please - a self-lit but non-emissive texture setting, or a prim setting, would be wonderful. I was recently given a very simple script which does appear to do this. It has to be placed in the prim, which has already been set to light, and it turns off the local lighting effects from the light, to make it exactly that. I can't get into SL due to the 1.6.2 update, but I can pass the script over when in world if you IM me. It was SUCH a simple script I was sceptical that it could work when it was passed to me, but I got a friend who knows about these things to check it out. Cali

WHOA... that to me is a very vivid and good example! I really like the sound of that. You know, if this is put into SL, it might even be used in replacemen of or in conjunction with alphatexturetricks and I'd imagine that having big digital displays like the clock you mentioned would be garishly, deliciously cyberpunk in some cases. Or even a surreal giant clock that falls on your head and then ILLUMINATES in front of you. Another usage? Stove burners. Yet another usage? inworld computer monitors.

This is a duplicate of Proposition 11 Full bright textures. Or prop 11 is a duplicate of this one, either way the votes could be combined and one proposition depricated.

Yes I definitely want this. Framerates in Local Lighting mode would be dramatically improved without all these light sources around. I've already voted on Prop 11 which is the same thing. Lets make sure we unify the votes one way or the other.
I've seen the script hack solution.. which seems to merely turn one particular face of the object black. This seems to stop the light-casting but we need a built-in more user-friendly option for this, as that is a kludgy solution. If you want all faces of an object to be a non-black shade that solution doesn't work.

Honestly, I'd kill for more rendering options.

If you want all faces of an object to be a non-black shade that solution doesn't work. I have been told that the script doesn't actually help...but the good news is that you can change the colour of the black face without altering the effectiveness (or ineffectiveness) of the script.
