I find it annoying sometimes that the only way to Rez a prim is to have it be against the ground, or another object.
I think it would be helpfull to have something like a solid grid, or grid wall that was client side only that you could rez a prim against in any space. Think of it as the current grid option, but solid.
Maybe in the Edit window have an option to toggle it on, with a wall and a floor, or just a wall, or just a floor, then you could simply Create or drag an object onto it from your inventory and have the object/prim created in "space".
The solid grid would either be kept in the center of the camera view, or remain infront of your avatar, or treat it as though its a prim itself, with the ability to move it and rotate it as you wish.
Other users would not see the solid grid, only you would, they would see the object just rez in space.
Sure this is possible to do via script... but it would be much easier for everyone to do if it was a built in feature, especialy if you need to rez something on a no script land.
The payoff would be to truely treat SL as a 3D enviornment with the ability to rez a prim anywhere in its space, and the fact that you wouldn't need to be next to an object or the ground in order to rez something.

I also don't like that you can't rez objects in some places.
I'd still like the ability to "sit" on attached objects, or "rez and use" straight out inventory.

From: someone Originally posted by Wraith Jensen "rez and use" straight out inventory. What do you mean by that? I don't understand. Are you talking about attaching an object directly from inventory? You can already do that.

Say... rez a vehicle, and use it straight out of inventory.

just make an attachment that rezzes a basic prim at your location. Problem solved. And if you set the temp on rez bit... (no script only lasts for the first 15 meters above the ground.)
I personaly don't have much need for this.

I think they mean if you have a scripted object and it calls for another one that the other object can be rezed directly from your inventory versus being put in a box to rez.
Am I correct in this understanding?
