I was browsing this thread on 3D modeling and SL, and Chosen Few made the comment: From: Chosen Few It would be nice to have a 4-pane viewer. That would make a lot of headaches go away. However, since SL is a multi-funtion platform, and modeling is only one of those functions, it's unlikely we'll be seeing anything that specialized for a long, long time if ever. My thought? Why not?! Whoever said such a thing had to be specialized and Linden-provided? Why not simply provide the players with the tools to create a 4-pane viewer, along with other nifty tricks. Suggestion: implement some form of setting up an "alternate camera angle". We have streaming video, perhaps it would be a small leap to instead stream an alternate rendering of the world. Or implement a PiP-style of sub-window, preferably accessable through LSL. It would be slow, certainly, but that's part of the expandability of SL. For static like a 4-pane viewer (security system on a house?), rendering speed would not be much of an issue, and this could be incredibly useful. For a more complex application (I'm picturing a space-saving roller-coaster that projects a ride though a mini-prim environment onto a large screen, as opposed to physically moving the avatar through space)... well, technology is getting better every day. Eventually it would get up to speed.

If I understand things right, setting up maltiple camera angles is relativly easy, although I'm not sure how much it'd slow things down.
What I do when I'm doing complex modelling is run a second copy of SL with my alt logged in and use that for a secondary view. It's damned useful when scripting certain things too.

I'd settle for having my av's face visible in a small display at all times.

From: SuezanneC Baskerville I'd settle for having my av's face visible in a small display at all times. Mind if I ask why?
