I.m. into game from forums!!

I have thought a while now that a feature to I.m. from the forums into the game would be really nice!!
obviously if one logs into the community page, ones friends list is accesible. With my own work situation, I cannot be checking my personal emails or using any third party messengers. but i can access the forums here when on break or lunch, and it would be wonderful to be able to send a little hello message to a friend i see online at the time!!

might be wishful thinking or difficult and low on any priority list. but its something, I, for one would love to have!!

either that or nobody else is particularly interested in such an avenue of communication...I will watch another day and see if this generates any interest from otherbefore looking to move it elsewhere

It's not that, it's just that we've been begging for this feature for quite awhile and so far to no avail.

this is something i would really love to have...but it appears to not be on the horizon for us...

I have been wanting exactly that....I even asked for it during one of the inworld meetings the Lindens have held in the past.

When we get this feature (and I certainly hope we do, so I'm being an optimist here), we may behave like it was there all along for us.

I'd even like SL to be able to "freeze" my IMs and not lose them upon a crash. I know this is a pretty handy thing... there are times when I just have to suddenly log out too; an easier intermediary so I could keep talking out of SL or a status mode that says something to the effect of "not in SL" would be welcome.

The lack of having a feature like external IM makes for an immersion break. As SL becomes more and more relevant, there's got to be more connections between outside of SL and within. A more stable "interflux of energy", sotospeak.

i tried to give my 2 cents worth in the pr forum above where the same suggestion is made and got this message:

i have a premium account and i dont think ive been banned for anything?..

I get that all the time when responding to fresh posts or making a new thread in a different forum. I believe it's one of the many bugs in the forum java that incorrectly interprets international (non US) date formats.

As to your request, just in case you did not know you can email to IM and IM to email so if you have a gmail account or something you can keep in touch with folks in-game that way as long as you dont send a big long email (it will get cut off).

Ashley, re your other post, nobody can reply to a post in the Linden Forum.

didnt know one couldnt reply in those forum threads, guess it makes sense so those threads stay on topic and dont turn into rambling long things

I knew about the email to i.m., but i cant access my personal email accounts from work...the network blocks access...i can get to the forums so i was just hoping, as apparently others have too, that with the community page there could be a feature to click a friends name that is shown as "in world", and then a box to send and receive quick i.m.'s

that would be a VERY nice thing to have !!!

Can't the forum send e-mails?

Viable one-way solution only, since I don't believe that there could be a reply to your forum PM box....might be possible though.
