I would really like this feature, now when we select a texture you have a pull down menu. But seriously, I can't find the texture i'm looking for in my list of 1000 textures!
So what I would really like is a texture browser with preview possibility. But for now a "next" and "previous" button would do. So you could just click next and see the next texture in stead of clicking on the pull down menu and scrolling to the bottom to select the next one.
Am I making sense?

Even a "favorite texture" panel, where you can place up to say 10 textures in a "favorites" box with preview, that way if you are doing a themed build, you can place the textures you are using in that build in one easy to access location. Would be MUCH more convenient that what I am doing now, which is to rename them and putting an "a" in front of the texture name so its at the top of my list

if applying the snapshot preview code to the texture browse box is too cumbersome, can the browse box at least group textures using the folder structure in our inventory?
that will allow us to group them into sublists that we can easily keep up with.

It would be nice if the combo-box would at least jump to the point in the list for the current texture. It's a pain to try out several texture, but have to rescan down the list from the top just to move to the next texture in the list.

A preview window would be nice, but then the textures (or at least thumbnails of them) would have to be permanently cached on the client. Otherwise, they would all stream from the servers every time you open your browser.
A customizable pallete of textures would be GREAT for building. Failing that, even listing the 10 most recently used textures at the top of the texture pop-up would be a help.
Sometimes, when screen real estate isn't a big deal (though it usually is), it's faster to have your inventory menu (or a second copy of it) open and scrolled to a folder containing the textures you are using.

I have changed the way I apply textures. I used to use a code letter in front of each texture so they were grouped, ie A for Av textures, B for Flooring, C for Roofing. You get the idea. Then when I was texturing I would just put a * in front of the ones I was considering using so they would pop to the top of the list.
But now I find it easier to open my inventory and simply drag the texture over to the texture box and violá it is applied. It seems much easier that way than using the scroll down feature.

All very true, but what do you do when you don't know the name of that certain texture? Are you going to double click all your textures in your inventory? I use the same method, and still I would love to be able to browse through my collection. Or as Hank said, at least let the combobox jump to the current selected item. It's the little things that make the SL building experience an even better one

Having so many textures I have gotten away from using the texture window. I can drag from inventory on to a prim or part of a prim 30 textures and preview them quicker than I can open my texture window and scroll for the one i'm looking for.
Also keeping textures in a folder outside your Texture folder will reduce the number that show up in your texture scroll window. So if you have some you hate, dont use then move them outside the main folder.
Dragging a texture out of inventory to a prim places it on one side of the prim. Holding shift will place it on all sides. This is alot quicker that the preview window.
The only time I use my texture window is for a blank texture or making clothing.
