I'm not sure whether this has been previously suggested, but on more than one occasion I've had to ask for help to get rid of items that couldn't be found or selected on my land yet were apparently there, nonetheless. If we could get a list of objects on the land and return it via the About Land->Objects tab, it would probably make many lives easier.

I find managing a comunity built site is a real pain.
I have contacted one scripter about making a script to find and email me all prims that are owned by someone not on the current list. There is a vote for llReturnObject(key id) that would a script to return objects and with better scrip scanners we could make a lot of this easier without having to have LL deal with all the posible options. LL, Please give us the tools. |

If you are the land owner you can return items by name. Just go to about land/objects/refresh list (at the bottom), click on the name of the person, and click return items. Maybe you already know this and I misunderstand your post, but you can already return items by the person that owns the items.
Or if it's group owned land you need only to be an officer of the group to have access to this function. I hope this helps. If not, please disregard this post. |

Hi,
Whenever I check the objects list on public land on my sim, I find the names of people that left things there. That is true. But as I don't know if the stuff is valuable I normally try to find it to see what it is. I agree with Maegen, that this can really be a pain. The debug option (now menu items client and server) can help a lot. Anyway I would also like a system that would give me more information about the objects maybe their names ... if it was just "object" I'd know what to do with them. But if it was an object "Praise this sim!" I would probably like to keep it. ![]() Mel _____________________

I'd sure like to get a more detailed list of objects in my sim, too, although the list would be several thousand entries long if it listed EVERY object. Maybe if we could double-click a person in the about land list and see a list of only their objects, with the ability to show a beacon, that might help.

The debug option (now menu items client and server) can help a lot. Here's something that might help with finding those objects. When you click a person's name in the list, it hilights all of their prims in white, but the new Occlusion Culling option gets in the way of that. If their object is on the other side of a wall from you, you won't see the white hilight. Since you actually do want to see the object even if it is behind a wall, just turn off occlusion culling temporarily (control-shift-O, or client->rendering->object-object occlusion off) and pan around to see if the white selection appears. You may still have to fly around a bit if your plot's really big, but at least this gives you a fighting chance at finding the object. Just be sure to turn occlusion culling back on when you're done. |

LL, Please give us the tools. Some relavant FVT props where you can vote to encourage LL to put llReturnObject into the SL client : 1632: security tools (including llReturnObject) 1278: llReturnObject (again) 1016: llReturnObject (yet again _____________________

Perhaps this post is misnamed? I meant returning objects by object name, not person name, as some of you correctly gleaned from my post. I'll give an example using my most recent debacle.
I rezzed an item called "Modern table" in my house while sorting my inventory, to see what it was. Nothing showed up, so I thought it had failed, and tried again, twice more, before realizing that they simply weren't showing up. I turned on Highlight Transparent but nothing was showing up. I thought hmm, maybe they are tiny. So I tried going into Build mode and into Edit and selecting the area. Nothing. So I took out my Finder object and it indeed found three instances of the object, and pointed to them, but I could not for the life of me select them, no matter what I did. Eventually I called Live Help, where I was told to log back in because the items might be ghosted. Nope. I tried again to remove them while waiting for another reply. Next the Linden checked it out and said they could remove them, but would have to restart the region. I thanked them, left the region, waited. Came back, prim count was the same, so I looked with the Finder tool again and sure enough, they were still there. The Linden was stumped, and I heard nothing more there. I went to a Sandbox and took out the item again, this time while already in Edit mode so I could immediately Delete the item if I couldn't see it. This time, though, I got a message saying I can't create plants or trees on land I don't own. So I went to my shop land, which is more flat and cleared out, and tried again, and this time, the "Modern Table" came up as a bunch of small clumps of grass. I tried again a couple of times more, yep, definitely grass. And it wasn't showing up at all in my home, still. So I spent the next few hours writing down the coordinates of everything on my land, every last tree and piece of building, picked it all up (minus the "Modern Tables" of course) and Returned (successfully) the modern tables to myself, and spent another few hours putting all the items back up. If there had been a feature like this, I could have just returned the 3 items in a few seconds, and been on my merry way. |

Ouch, what a nightmare! Just a note... if you rez plants, especially grass, I think they end up at ground level in a sim, even if you're up in your skybox. Maybe that's what was confusing you?

I thought that too, but didn't see them on the ground, and the finder tool (and the Linden's tools) saw them as being up in the air, inside the house. Maybe I just overlooked them somehow on the ground. I don't think there can be any harm in llReturnObject() though. Seems like a lot of us can come up with uses for such a function!
