Please? Pretty please? SL is full of mysterious light sources, sometimes not where they're supposed to be, and often hidden inside of something or textured 100% Alpha.

At the least some are set too intense and cause everything to lose detail by cancelling shading ( Looks fullbright @_@ ) and at worse, I've seen some scripted to color-chage or siezure-inducing strobe flashing. I see much potential for griefing in lightprims, its simply that nobody has taken advantage of them for that purpose, yet.

So please, if we could get a new beacon type added to the view menu it'd be helpful at the very least in tracking down mysterious sources of light.

Yes yes yes! I have had a hell of a time digging out a mystery lighted prim more than once.

I've used that, and it's helpful but it's not a real beacon.

Tried that, and it misses a lot of stuff. Where to see this easily? Check Luskwood. You'll see a lot of traces for light over on the playground, but the big lamps around the platform show nothing even though they cast significant light all around.

So again, beacons would still be a helpful thing.
